I am starting my last class at Ashford University. I think people forget it is also part of a brick and mortar school that has been in existence for many years(only the name changed). My aunt used to teach there when I was a little girl. Anyways, I like school. I found the classes engaging, interesting and sometimes difficult. This was not an easy degree, but I worked hard and did my work. You have homework every week that has to be done in a specific allotted time. Every week you have from Tues-Thurs to get your discussions posted, then everything else done by Monday. The norm is a few papers every 5 weeks, with a 8-10 page at the end of the 5 weeks. You need to be efficient with APA format and knowing how to research primary and secondary sources. In the last 3 years I have never had issues with my advisors or financial aid. With financial aid, if you pay attention, go to your portal and click the financial aid tab, it tells your financial aid breakdown. You also receive an award letter that get in email form and it's online. I am confused about all the people complaining about money on these boards. Read and pay attention to what is on your portal. Ashford is accredited and accepted everywhere. I learned a lot and will get my Master's Degree here. People who are reading these comments to decide, avoid disgruntled employees, bad grammar comments and people complaining about money. Great University, I would recommend this school :)

Just like a traditional school

I just sat here and read all of these reviews. The people that are complaining obviously have never attended a traditional college. I have and quit (USC). A friend of mine stayed and completed his degree; he had a 2.9 GPA, would that be considered BUYING a degree? He obviously did nothing, he admits to learning NOTHING! College is designed to be self paced, professors give lectures that no one listens to and the student still must read the textbook; no professors ever made me read or complete my assignments. Ashford is the same. Yes, there is less class participation, but if you never go to class (like my friend and me) there is NO class participation! So what if some are getting A’s for doing less work; if you are happy with getting an A for doing less work you need to reevaluate why you are in college. I am here to learn; if I would have done that at USC I wouldn’t have quit. Ashford is just like any other university; spend your time in one and you too will see. If you do your work any college is easy. Basic sentence structure isn’t taught in college, it is taught in grade school; you are expected to know it when you get to college. If you don’t LEARN IT, that’s why you are here.

So far my experience at Ashfird University has been a good one. I am almost finished with my first class, I started on 5/18/2010. Some of the reviews I have read make me glad I enrolled before reading them. Her is my opinion at the begining of my education with Ashford. My enrollment advisor was obviously working to get me enrolled quickly because her job depends on it. She was nice, she was "friendly", but she was pushy, very pushy. They must get bonuses or they work on commision or something. While I was one the phone with her one time I heard a loud celebration and when I asked her what it was she told me they do that every time someone enrolls with them. When I told her I wouldn't be able to fax some forms in the minute she wanted me to she got rude. For some people having an advisor that calls and e-mails you through out the week might be nice, but for me it is an annoying waste of cell phone minutes. But, if that is the kind of support you are looking for, my enrollment advisor has done an awesome job of keeping up with me and trying to make sure things are going well. My financial aid process was quick and fairly hassle free. My assistant financial aid advisor was less than helpful when I had questions about why my aid at Ashford did not cover the same things my aid did at my previous brick and mortar institution. My actual financial aid advisor has only contacted me one, and that was just to get my verification forms completed. I am in PSY 202 Adult Development, and well, it is much like any other class I have attended in person. The main difference is that you are writing in a forum instead of interacting face to face. Since the discussions are written it also makes it more obvious which students are less than prepared for class and it can be frustrating for those who have worked hard to put up a good discussion post with all the requirements included. My instructor does not appear to ignore the students, she does get involved and show that she reads the posts. according to htis website this is a no-profit school, and the BBB has given this school an A+ rating. I believe someone stated that they have a lot of complaint, acording to the BBB's website they do have 45 complaints in the last 36 months 7 of those were Administratively Closed and 38 were resolved. The BBB of Iowa considers this an A+ business. http://www.bbb.org/san-diego/business-reviews/schools-academic-colleges-and-universities/ashford-university-in-san-diego-ca-23003139/#rating This is just an initial review, we will see what happens as time goes on.
