Review:

I am done with my degree;I regret my decision attending this school, the college may be okay for most of law enforcement officers which work for small agencies or police department outside big metropolitan areas etc.. since they are the biggest clientele they got, this can explain why this place is still in business.

For the price and reputation is not worth it, and I should get my money back, there are better options for about the same price and with better reputation, this university is extremely overrated by some alumnus and shills that follow this blog. I got suck in due to the variety of specialization and the concept of studying at your pace to sort say. Yeah, I should have known better, I would see this experience like buying a lemon car then discard it to buy a new one, a better one.

The university is a very low tier school but is accredited, which for most underachievers this is enough to qualify them for most government jobs, don't get me wrong there are people that do not belong there, but for other reasons like time, and economics this may be the only viable options. The University is getting to make it easier now for people to come in since they soon will be participating in tittle IV aid. But still the degree from this place has too many limitations.

They don't have many faculty that can facilitate the courses or have the expertise in some areas, anyone can facilitate the course because the format they use are multiple choices, coloring areas and pop up pictures tests and the assigned professor just read from the teachers manual with the answers and grade accordingly.

These facilitators have no idea what they are teaching and what they trying to test. Some course materials are out of date, I have pointed out this to the administration but nothing was done. Base on my own experience I cannot say I would recommend CSU, nor I would go in a crusade to discredit the bloody place, I will cut my losses and move on.

I plan to use my diploma to decorate my wall and not to find a job. My Bachelor's has more weight and merit on his own that using this degree from CSU as an addendum. Any way, this school is preposterous.

I just completed my BA in Criminal Justice after having started my first class in June of 2006. I enjoyed the flexibility CSU offered and felt I learned much after having been out of school for so long. You certainly could not find a better program for the cost and I know my recent promotion at work was a direct result of my new found education. I am very proud of the degree I earned through CSU and would recommend them to any working class person with a family looking to improve their life.

When I entered the program I did so thinking they would soon be a fully accredited school. That did not happen in the four years it took me to finish. That was disappointing. I know, from experience, that this MBA degree is not as difficult as in a traditional campus situation and I am not saying I did not learn anything because I learned a lot. It was a long time desire to get my MBA as I had stopped and started due to relocations. Being online was very nice and I truly enjoyed taking the courses so I am satisfied with the results. Their technology was very good. I did find that the credentials of some of the teachers were not truly qualified for the subject but since most everything was electronic I had little, if any, interactions with any of the teachers. I got the most out of the research papers.

Review:

I returned to college after a long hiatus, and researched my choices for distance education very carefully. Out of the many colleges to choose from I kept coming back to Columbia Southern University for several compelling reasons:

1.	Flexibility. The open-enrollment system and no mandatory "chat" sessions was a major consideration. You enroll in a class when YOU are ready, and you have up to 10 weeks to complete it. For those of us in public safety and others with equally demanding schedules, this is a huge benefit.

2.	Quality. CSU's faculty members are top-notch professionals in their fields. Many are working professionals themselves and practice what they preach, rather than simply teaching from the text. The coursework incorporates scenarios from real-life situations and encourages the student to use their experiences in their course assignments.

3.	Value. I challenge you to find another online university that provides as much "bang for your buck" as Columbia Southern University does for it's students. Both the undergraduate and graduate tuition rates are reasonable, and if your employer becomes a "learning partner" with CSU there is an additional 10% discount. All textbooks are included in the tuition when you choose the "per course" enrollment option and there are no hidden "fees."

One of my lifelong goals has been to complete my college education and Columbia Southern University gave me the opportunity to do so without putting either my professional or family lives on hold. Enthusiasm must really be contagious, because four of my co-workers are now affiliated with Columbia Southern University and several more are considering it. I can tell you that after my undergraduate experience at CSU I really haven’t looked at many other graduate programs. I will be back at CSU in the fall for my masters degree.

Best program for working adults

Review:

I completed CSU's Bachelor of Science in Marketing in April 2007. I had previously attended a traditional four-year university as well as a local community college. Columbia Southern University was initally one of many options that I reviewed prior to returning to complete my bachelor's. The cost savings of CSU, combined with the focus for working adults and a flexible schedule, were the key to my decision. I could not afford the traditional four-year programs near my home, nor could I quit my job to attend classes with inconvenient starting and end times. Also, due to my job requiring significant travel, I could not attend the required number of in-class sessions.

From day one, the personnel of CSU were as committed to my educational goals as I was. I had never experienced that level of commitment from the school that I had paid thousands annually to attend.

The program proved rigorous. I learned concepts that I could quickly apply in my working environment. Every class requires significant writing, a skill that helps me become a better communicator within the business world. The best feature was the focus on real-world business applications. Too many business classes are theoretical, but have no value when applied to business environments. CSU classes are thoroughly grounded in daily business operations. I cannot say enough about the value of the education that I received during my studies to complete the BS/Marketing program.

After completion of my degree, I applied for a position that would directly be related to my studies. Because of the concepts I learned, I was able to earn the position and immediately make an impact for my company. I have received much praise for the value I bring to my firm and I believe that much of that rests on the education I received at CSU.

My employer believes it as well. When I mentioned that I was going to pursue my MBA through CSU, I was offered tuition reimbursement. The value of the education I received was outstanding. I learned to think critically, apply my knowledge in real-world applications, and sharpened my time management skills. Juggling a full-time job with travel and pursuing a degree is a difficult task. CSU's flexible program made it possible for me to pursue my educational goals and give me a solid foundation to build a career.

I have been to three "brick and mortar" universities and by far CSU's format instills greater learning skills into the student. CSU's in house books are included and very well written, with many extra highlights, annotations and in some cases study guides and CDs. For the price I am very happy. Instructors are all very responsive and highly accomplished professional individuals. All server based so no loading of intrusive programs on your PC.

I am almost done with my degree; the college is okay, what I found is that the faculty (at least in finance specialization) they have no idea what they are teaching and what they try to test. Faculties do not post their bio or have any background to teach the classes assigned. They really need to work in the curriculum in Finance because it really sucks. I have pointed out this to the administration but nothing was done, I guess I have the only one that has complain. I don't think CSU is a bad University but certainly needs works in some areas that have neglected specially in the finance specialization. Base on my own experience I cannot say I would recommend CSU they are better options out there. They do have strong curriculum for law enforcement though.

I have taken 3 courses so far and I will continue to attend CSU until I complete my Ph.D. in Buisness. The tuition is the best I have found anywhere. The open classes are a great help and being able to complete a class in 3 to 10 weeks is the greatest. All the interaction I have with the staff has been very pleasant. Everyone is very patient, kind and very helpful. After attending 3 years of the "on campus" universities, I have found the on line CSU courses to be far better. I wish I had done this years ago. I have recommend CSU to my friends and co-workers and my supervisor is now in the process of enrolling.

I started attending CSU a couple years back after many years of putting off college. It was the best decision I have made by far. The professors and support staff are second to none when it comes to helping you out. The open schedule to complete your courses is outstanding for those of us who have very busy lives. I have been nothing but pleased with my progress and what I haved learned thus far in my quest for a degree.

As many others have said, it is no walk in the park, they offer the same challenging questions and exams that any "classroom" college/university offers, the key is making your schedule fit so you can complete the course on time.

Nothing but kudos to CSU, I will be proud when I finish my degree!

I found Columbia Southern University (CSU) to offer programs and schedules to fit the needs of almost all students and situations. With 12 different terms student can enroll every month, they also offer per course enrollment in which you can enroll at your leisure. I found every teacher to be highly qualified as they are also from remote locations. This allows CSU to attract highly qualified experts in their educational field of expertise to develop courses and programs. Their online access and use of technology is excellent. They could organize a few websites for better functionality, but the information is their once you find it. I also used my GI Bill which was handled very well by the support staff with all paperwork be submitted in a timely manner so I never missed a payment. I can't think of any reason to not attend CSU and will be enrolling in the BSBA/finance program after the first of the year.

CSU is an excellent university with high ethical and academic standards, highly-skilled professors who have the work skills to back their class knowledge, and the most outstanding customer service and support of any institution or business I have had the pleasure to experience. (I regularly interface with many companies per day).
You are truly treated as a valued customer at CSU, not as a child in "school". Classes are very challenging, more so than in traditional classroom programs, and are well organized. I researched 10 other online programs before choosing CSU. CSU wins hands-down with 10-week flexible classes, free books (yes, free!), well-accepted DETC accreditation, and excellent, timely support. They cater to the returning adult learner with clearly organized class instructions, fast instructor callbacks, great online library resources, only $250/credit for graduate classes, payment plan options, etc.
The 10-week courses start when you sign up for them, anytime. You may finish the classes early if you are able.
I have reasearched to also find that employers do not look down upon CSU online degrees. The transfer rate of DETC accredited universities' credits to traditional universities is said to be about 70%.
I would not be able to commit to full time traditional college classes. This is a great option for the working person.

After searching many other online programs I found CSU to be the most affordable and flexible. I didn't want a program were I was required to login so many hours or so many times per week. I wanted the flexibility to log in as many times and for as long as I wanted. So far all my classes have been challenging, but on my own terms the syllabus are clear, the assignments are clear and manageable. Several of my co-workers told me how much they enjoyed CSU, so I started my MBA right away once I finished the undergraduate. The format which allows you to work as quickly as you like or take the whole time while submitting assignments on YOUR schedule makes the large amount of work required for a course manageable. I have been able to balance work, home, and school without difficulty. Simply put, this program is perfect for working adults and is a good value as well.

CSU has been tremdously helpful any time I have needed something. It is great because you can work at your own pace. Ic hecked numerous schools and their tuition was the best deal I could find. I received my Bachelors degree and went on to my MBA which I should have in December. Any time I have had a question I have received a prompt reply. I have asked several profesors if the degree if going through with higher degrees is worth it and I have always received honest responses. As far as accredidation, I have seen multiple comments about it. I personally worked for the State of Florida for a while and they required a degree for the positions. They accepted my degree after seeing my transcript and never said a word. I think the whole deal is over rated. Employers care about degrees, not necessarily where they are from. My degrees have had made it possible for me to work several positions. I think that for the price and the ability to not have to go to the actual school to do classes, it is well worth checking in to. I love CSU and they have helped me receive my degrees when going to a school was not possible. If you are a single parent or have a career, CSU is the way to go!

I've never experienced having to write 20 300+ word essays, a 7 page research paper, and 6 quizzes in any single course.

The program was great and I am really enjoying it. I was worried about the accreditation however after talking with several IT directors, all agreed that they do not discriminate on degrees unless it is from a school that is known as a diploma mill. Mainly in the IT field, experience is the key and the diploma gets you one step ahead. With this bachelors degree, 7 certifications, and 9 years experience, I highly doubt I will have any problems finding a job.

I graduated from CSU last fall and am very happy and proud of my degree. CSU has really helped me in my purist of bettering myself through education. When I first started at the school I transferred credit hours over from another online school and from my local community college. CSU also gave me credit for course I took while in the Navy.
I had several problems at CSU, which is expected when dealing with people from a distance. My main problem was e-mail issues that created extra effort for me. I brought this problem up twice in my time at CSU and was pleased with the response. The issue was not quickly fixed, but real effort was placed on assuring the problem was resolved once the solution was available.
The staff at CSU is very good and many of them put forth extra effort to assure that my educational goals were achievable. I really enjoyed dealing with the staff. The professors at CSU were always available and I had only one small problem with one of my professor. This problem was not major and was quickly resolved.
I am currently pursuing my MBA at another online school that has a partnership with CSU (Northcentral University). I feel that CSU has sufficiently prepared me for my MBA and the outside working world. As an older student, who also owns and operates a small family business CSU meet all my financially and schedule needs. I highly recommend the school to anyone looking to advance their education. In fact I recently got my wife to enroll at CSU and she is very happy with the school and once my MBA is completed I may look into CSU’s DBA program!

I am an adjunct instructor for 2 colleges here close to home, and I teach all over the State of PA for the Pennsylvania Chief's of Police in the Executive Management Programs. I have also designed programs in Executive Management that have been used throughout Pennsylvania.

Recently, assigned as a member of the International Chiefs of Police Association Training Committee, I get to travel across the US approving executive course work taught to ALL chiefs of police in this country.

Its because of CSU! Four 4 years I busted my hump and working with some of the best professors I ever had to deal with in my career.

My bachelors degree is from a normal brick and morter college, and it was a lot easier than the MBA I received from CSU. CSU was professional, the materials that I learned were top rated, and I will always give CSU the credit that it so rightly deserves. I will match my MBA knowledge up with any of the Ivy League Universities, and come out on top. Thanks CSU!

I completed 90% of my degree with CSU and enjoyed every bit of it! The flexibility of schedules, the courses and the associated workload is second to none! The professors are very knowledgeable and always available to assist when needed. I would still be attending CSU for my Masters if they had a program for Emergency Management (my chosen degree concentration).
CSU was recommended to me by my supervisor who also completed his BS and Masters at CSU and my recommendation to my brother and sister have resulted in their pursuit of a degree from CSU.

Getting my degree in Environmental Management through CSU was the best thing I could have ever done. The course work was more challenging than in a regular college setting and tuff because you did not always have the one-on-one interaction with other students and faculty. However, companies do not look down on how I completed my BS, but recognize I completed a rigorous course of work to attain my degree.

I would highly recommend anyone that is looking for an opportunity to get their degree through distance education - go to CSU first. Their tuition rates, faculty, course material and use of technology is the best out there.

I am going back to get my MS in a few months. Thats how much I think of their under graduate and post-education programs they have.

CSU MBA is a Great Value

I just finished the MBA program with a general concentration. CSU’s programs are accredited which was a necessity for me for the tuition assistance benefit requirement by my employer. No doubt in my mind, CSU provides students with the best value in education.

As others have mentioned, CSU uses Blackboard with the option of using Blackboard's Backpack software that allows you to work without being connected to the Internet. This is a great benefit for those on the go.

I was told from a CSU representative before enrolling that many of the professors also teach at other, more expensive, online institutions. I felt that they were qualified and provided great value in the education process.

The support staff is excellent. Every time I've had a question or request for documentation, I received fast and courteous service.

The interaction with other students from around the world was also a great benefit. This was typically done through discussion board assignments.

Overall I found CSU's MBA program to be demanding and rewarding. If you are a prospective student, be sure that you have good time management skills and enough time to satisfy all of the reading, researching, and writing you'll be doing. Good Luck!

I wanted to announce that due to my BS and MBA from Columbia Southern University, and my professional background in law enforcement I've been selected as an adjunct professor at the local community college in my area of residence.

In addition, I am also an adjunct professor at a highly specialized university called Henley-Putman University, which specializes in degrees in executive protection, intelligence management and counter-terrorism. My academic credentials through CSU played a significant role in obtaining this position.

For those nay sayers that say you cannot secure a teaching position with a DETC degree, I am living proof that these so called "limitations" are few and far between.

The only limitations of earning a degree through an institution that is DETC accredited is the limitations that YOU chose to believe.

Thank you CSU for making all my dreams and aspirations become reality.

I recently completed my MBA (with a finance concentration) through Columbia Southern University and attended their commencement ceremony in June 2007. Having completed a B.S. through another leading online university and my A.A. from a "traditional" classroom setting, I can easily say Columbia Southern University was superior in quality, flexibility and value.

The support staff and professors were very accessible and helpful. I never had connectivity problems (which was a HUGE issue with another university I attended). Reaching a "warm body" at Columbia Southern University was also painless (something people really need to consider when choosing an online program).

The textbooks were current and offered relevant, up-to-date case studies of real-world companies. The coursework was challenging - you will certainly have to devote a lot of time and energy to complete it, however the flexibility makes it very do-able. This program is not recommended for someone that lacks self-discipline or tends to procrastinate!

Finally, I was very impressed with the commencement ceremony - they truly put forth a quality program that dignified our accomplishment. The university itself is located in a quaint beach town that made for an awesome family vacation to boot.

My highest recommendation!

I began attending Columbia Southern University in Sep 2003 while deployed to Bosnia. What I found was a great school who was glad to assist their students in anyway possible.

They sent the textbooks via ExpressMail to me while in Europe. Once I returned back to the states, they shifted everything to my new address, and the transition was flawless.

As far as the teachers go, I have nothing but good things to say. Only once did I have to ask a professor to expedite the grading of one exam. I had to do that because I had to turn the grade in to the Air Force for payment purposes.

I have introduced several people to CSU, and assisted them in pursuing their education. They also are very pleased with their experience as well.

CSU was the second online school that I attended. I'm glad that the first one was bad enough to make me leave. Had they not been, I would have never found CSU!

I did alot of research about online schools. My employeer has 2000 employees in 1 plant alone. I talked to our HR professionals and showed them the individual program requirements. Out of ALL of the schools CSU was the best based on Degree Curriculum, cost per credit hour, class structure, and open enrollment hands down. I finished my Associates in Manufacturing Technology and figured that would be it for the Associates. I saw CSU's Business Associates and felt that it would be a great addition to my portfolio. I enjoyed it so much I only have 9 classes left for my Bachelor's in Human Resources Management. My HR managers would ask and review me on course content after some classes ... they were always satisified with the answers given. Thanks CSU!

The practical knowledge I have gained from attending CSU is the "Best" that money can buy! The faculty and staff has always been very helpful in resolving any problems or answering any questions you might have while attending the university. The ability to proceed at your OWN pace, not being restricted to a rigid eight week schedule enables the student to absorb and understand the material so they can put their knowledge into practice in the "real" world. It took me a while to complete my degree, but I did it when time permitted, because of my busy schedule, and I have completed it in just five years! You can do it in one year if you like that kind of added pressure. Thanks CSU Faculty & Staff!

I completed the M.S. OSH/EM program in about 3 years. I feel that I received top-notch instruction and that the education I received increased my credibility and marketability. I am an environmental consultant and an officer in the military reserve. My recent promotion in both occupations is due in part to my completion of this degree.

The typical CSU student is already a working professional who doesn't have the ability to sit in a traditional classroom because of his/her work schedule. That being said, this type of student is going to be more experienced and disciplined than a traditional student. I found my fellow classmates to be knowledgeable, articulate and always willing to help each other out. Most of my professors were working in the field they taught, so they were able to relay current information, not the information they learned 30 years ago.

CSU is a great institution with a lot of proud students and alumni. That pride is well justified.

The admin staff has always gone above and beyond to assist when necessary, and the courses are relevant and well organized. I extend my sincere thanks to everyone at CSU for making the past 4 years such a wonderful experience. Columbia Southern University makes very good use of available technology to deliver top-notch courses to their students. This is accomplished through Blackboard software, discussion boards, the use of video lectures, and software plug-ins.

I have attended one other DETC institution and strongly feel that CSU offers vastly superior value. The amount of coursework can be staggering at first but, as you continue through your degree, you realize that you are becoming far better versed in the subject matter than your non-CSU peers. Thus, the quality of the education is far superior while the cost remains reasonable.

I have and will continue to reccomend CSU to peers.

CSU is a friendly and supportive school but it is also very demanding and rigorous. Courses are constantly reviewed and updated to meet high standard of education. Great on line school that does support the students 100%. Uses "BlackBoard" / very user friendly. School is Nationaly Accredited. You cannot beat the vaule. Only down fall is I would like to see CSU become Regionaly Accredited. I feel that CSU could compete on a higher stage with it competitors. Some students may shy away from the lack of Regional Accreditation. If you are striving for a degree, and are willing to put in the time, the school will meet and or exceed your demands. 1-10 scale I would give them an 8.

Generally, the experience I had with the institution was excellent particularly the student support by professors and the Student Services Department. They were quick to respond to queries and ready to assist in all my course related needs. The Student Services staff were courteous in their responses to my messages (via email). Books are/were up-to-date and relevant. The cost (per credit) is/was reasonable.

As to its utility, I've landed a new job (a year after graduation) on the strength of this MBA degree. The pay is 3 times my previous pay check and at a senior post. The degree has been verified (and been approved) by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Labor as a pre-requisite to issuing a new Work Permit for the new job.

Excellent institution for working professionals. I was sure I was not enrolling to Harvard/Stanford/Wharton/etc., I was rather certain I was enrolling to a legitimate and peer-reviewed school via its accreditation.
