THE DEPARTMENT OF CURRICULUM&INSTRUCTION&DEPARTMENT OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPYThe overall objective of the program will be to prepare educational and/or health care professionals with knowledge and skills to utilize assistive technology for the enhancement of a student's and/or client's functional performance. Specifically, candidates who successfully complete the certification will have:(1) a broad based knowledge of assistive technology,(2) the ability to assess assistive technology needs with clients/students and plan implementation based upon that assessment,(3) the ability to work with a collaborative team to implement assistive technology, and (4) knowledge and skills to effectively manage resources for procurement of assistive technology.COURSES: The certificate will consist of 12 credits, three core courses and one elective.SPED 6701 / OCCT 6701 Assistive technology Devices and ServicesIntroducing basics of assistive technology including legal, educational, and discipline specific information. (100% online)SPED 6702 / OCCT 6702 Assessment, Planning, and Implementation of Assistive Technologies Exploration of assistive technology assessments and the planning and implementation of assistive technology within the student or client's environment. Students attain skills in selected assistive technologies using cross-disciplinary team approaches. (75% online / 25% face-to-face)SPED 6703 / OCCT 6703 Collaborative Resource Management of Assistive TechnologyFunding resources to meet the assistive technology needs within state and national networks.
