Description
The Master of Business Administration Degree Program (MBA) at East Carolina University offers professional training to qualified students for careers as effective and responsible administrators. The MBA program is designed for both business and non-business undergraduates. The degree is completely self-contained, requiring no prerequisite course work or business experience and is available to qualified students holding baccalaureate degrees in any business or non-business field. The MBA degree program consists of between a maximum of sixty semester hours (twenty classes) and a minimum of thirty semester hours (ten classes). The program is divided into two major components. First, ten business core courses designed to quickly give non-business undergraduate students the same academic knowledge-base as that of undergraduate business students. These classes may be waived on a course-by-course basis if the student has completed the equivalent undergraduate classes with a minimum grade of B.Second, ten business breadth courses made up of seven required classes and three required electives for a total of thirty semester hours beyond that of the business core. Degree requirements are the same for full-time and part-time students.Students may also choose to obtain an optional concentration. Each concentration requires additional course work from departments outside the College of Business. A certificate is awarded in conjunction with the MBA degree and successful completion of the concentration is reflected on the student's transcript. All required business graduate courses are offered both fall and spring semesters, with many offered during summer sessions. Classes are scheduled either one session per week 6:30-9:30PM Monday through Thursday or are scheduled two sessions per week 2:00-3:15PM or 3:30-4:45PM, either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. There are no Friday classes. In addition, all business core courses are currently available online and all business breadth courses will be placed online during the 2003-2004 academic year so that the entire program will be available online by the fall 2004 semester. Online courses do not require campus attendance. Although, work experience is preferred, but not required for admission, students with marginal job experience are encouraged to obtain career-related experience while earning their MBA. The flexibility of the program allows students to work full- or part-time or leave the program entirely to work for a semester and then re-enter. Students with an undergraduate degree in business administration planning to attend school full-time (including summer sessions) are generally able to finish the program in one year depending upon their prior academic performance. Students entering the MBA program from other disciplines should plan on at least four semesters to complete the program. Part-time students will adjust their schedules accordingly.STUDENTS MUST BE ADMITTED TO THE GRADUATE PROGRAM BEFORE TAKING GRADUATE BUSINESS CLASSES. NON-DEGREE GRADUATE STUDENTS CAN NOT TAKE GRADUATE BUSINESS CLASSES.
