Description

The BS in Information and Computer Technology (ICT) is designed to allow students with an approved AAS degree to easily continue their education at ECU.The ICT program prepares students to design, implement, troubleshoot, and maintain systems of computers and computer networks. This Computer Networking concentration places emphasis on the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of intra and inter networks. Advanced routing, switching, remote access, and network troubleshooting are covered in depth. Graduates are equipped with skills for entry level positions in network and information system operations in business and industry and future advancement to management. The upper division core for ICT and the Computer Network Concentration courses are offered in a distance learning environment. Students who completed an AAS degree from an approved program receive 24 semester hours block credit for the lower division core if they successfully obtain CCNA certification. This block credit applies to both on campus and distance learning students. The 13 semester hours of free electives are usually satisfied as well by transfer credits. All general education and cognate requirements still apply and can be fulfilled by transfer or by completing the class at ECU if that particular class is offered online. The maximum allowable transfer credit from community college classes is 63 semester hours for this degree. The total degree requirement is 126 semester hours; therefore a minimum of 63 hours must be taken at a 4 year institution. Additionally, at least half of the major courses (major courses consist of 57 semester hours of lower/upper core and concentration) must be taken at ECU. With the distance offering of the upper division core courses and the computer networking concentration courses, 33 semester hours of major courses are easily obtained at ECU via distance education. Other cognate or general education courses may be transferred from another 4-year institution if not taken at ECU.These semester based courses are typically given at least a week to complete assignments allowing the student great flexibility with regard to time and place.Information&Computer Technology offered online ICTN 2900 Introduction to Network Security ITEC 3290 Technical Writing ITEC 3300 Technology Project Management ICTN 3530 Network Environment II ICTN 3540 Network Environment III IDIS 3790 Technical Presentations ICTN 4040 Communication Security ICTN 3250 Internetwork Routing Technology ICTN 4150 Switching Network Technology ICTN 4250 Enterprise Network Technology ICTN 4590 Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting ITEC 3800 Cost and Capital Analysis ITEC 4293 Industrial SupervisionCourses to transfer or taken online English (6 hrs) ENGL 1100 Composition ENGL 1200 Composition Science (8 hrs) PHYS 1250/51 General Physics I PHYS 1260/61 General Physics II Social Science (12 hrs) ECON 2113 Prin. of Microeconomics PSYC 1000 Introductory Psychology PSYC 3241 Industrial Psychology Math (8 hrs) MATH 1065 College Algebra MATH 1074 Trigonometry MATH 2283 or ITEC 3200 Statistics Humanities&Fine Arts (10 hrs) At least one in Humanities COMM 2420 or 2410 Public Speaking Hum/Fine Arts to total 10 hrs Other Cognates (6 hrs) FINA 2244 Legal Envir. of Business AAS Technical courses (24 hrs) Free Electives (13 hrs)
