Description
The information assurance (IA) certificate program prepares graduates for employment in various levels of information technology industry. The skills included in the course work are required to be successful in such positions as information security specialist, network security analyst, and information security manager. The program is structured to achieve this objective through 15 s.h. of advanced course work. The information assurance certificate program is offered online via the Internet. Students are required to have fully functional computer hardware and full Internet connectivity. Hands-on experiences using industrial standard software is provided through our virtual InfoSec lab.All courses are offered on-line with no on-campus residency required. Fifteen hours of Internet-based, on-line graduate coursework are required for the IA certificate. DTEC 6800 Internet Research Methods is taken in the first semester DTEC 6823 Information Security Management DTEC 6865 Fundamentals of Network Security DTEC 6873 Network Intrusion, Detection and Incidence Response DTEC 6878 Legal and Ethical Issues in Information TechnologyAdd DTEC 6870 Â? Advanced Network Security to meet the SACS 18 hour requirement. The courses are scheduled to allow completion of the certificate program in 18 months. Transfer hours are not accepted in the IA certificate program. An overall B average is required in all coursework in the IA program. Two C's result in dismissal.ADMISSION STANDARDS You must have a B.S. degree from an accredited institution and have either an overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale on all undergraduate work, or a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in either the undergraduate major or work taken during the senior year. Due to the natural of the advanced skills, the prerequisites of this program include the knowledge of basic data communication, computer networking, and computer operation as evidenced by one of the following: COMPTIA Network+ certification or Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent course work. The prerequisite requirement can also be achieved by taking several ECU courses.ADMISSION PROCEDURE Complete the Non-Degree Application for Certificate Programs and return with: one copy of official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework (sealed) along with two letters of recommendation from persons who can attest to the applicant's academic competence or potential in the Computer Network Professional environment. Completion of a standardized examination, such as the GRE, is not required for admission to the IA program.THE FINE PRINT Admission to and completion of the IA certificate program does not supersede the admission requirements to a MS degree program at East Carolina University nor does it guarantee admission to a degree program.
