Description
The educational objectives for this certificate are to provide 18 graduate credit hours required for 079 Special Endorsement in Computers in Education through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Course Sequence The following six courses are required of all students in the certificate program. EDTC 6010 Introduction to Instructional Technology (3) (F, S) Overview of historical background, theories, instructional design and development, deliverers of instruction, current issues, and trends.EDTC 6020 Principles of Instructional Design (3) (F, S) Systematic process for design of instruction. Task analysis and evaluation techniques.EDTC 6035 Integration of Computers in K12 Curriculum (3) (F) In-depth study of the NC K-12 Computer Skills curriculum with emphasis on developing strategies, materials, and staff development to integrate technology across content areas within the standard course of study. Open to other graduate education majors.EDTC 6140 Planning for Technology (3) (S) Background necessary for school leaders to plan for technology. Development of educational specifications, design, selection, contracts, maintenance, staff development, evaluation, and management of local/wide area networks for P-12 schools.6139 Selection and Integration of Multimedia for P12 Schools (3) (proposed for spring 2004) Provides methods and materials for using a variety of multimedia formats in teaching. Focus is on enhancement of lessons related to the standard curriculum for the K12 classroom.EDTC 6149 Administration of School Technology Programs (3) (proposed for spring 2004) Theory and methods of building effective school technology programs. Includes professional development issues, decisions related to technology infrastructure, creating and implementing policy, collaboration, and community outreach.ADMISSION: Applicants to this certificate program must meet the same admissions requirements as for the MAEd (Instructional Technology) program. Graduate School admissions and retention standards will apply. Applicants to the Certificate for Special Endorsement in Computers in Education must currently have (or be eligible for) a NC teaching license.
