I have no issues with Excelsior. Be prepared to write essays. Most of the courses require a good deal of writing. If that is not your forte, It would be advisable to look elsewhere. The eight week sessions are demanding. I had substantial interactions with the admissions, financial aid, and academic advising personnel. All of them tried hard to provide a high level of service.

Bachelor of Science Political Science

I have completed my Associates degree at my local brick and mortar community college. Excelsior College proved to be rather challenging as well as rewarding. I completed my Bachelors degree in Political Science at this institution after having to transfer once I went on active duty. Overall it is a good school with valid regional accreditation. Its affordable and flexible for Soldiers who have to move around allot.

Good Experience
April 6, 2011
Overall, I had good experience completing my degree at Excelsior. Because I had attended several different colleges and changed majors, I had over 170 hours without a degree, I only needed 13 semester hours. They accepted most of my previous CLEP and DANTES tests scores and all of my previous classes. I was lacking the required upper level credits. I completed my degree requirements in less than 3 months after my initial evaluation was completed. ...

Lots of writing and solid material.

I finished my BS in Liberal Studies with a dual focus in Administative Management and Psychology recently, after a 22-year military career where I attended Texas Tech University, University of Hawaii, and University of Phoenix along the way. Excelsior recognized my experience and previous efforts, drew up a plan with multiple options and guided me to the finish line. For any military person, it's a no-brainer for online education. You will do alot of essay ...

Impressive online college

As a recent graduate of Excelsior College (BS in Liberal Studies/focus: Sociology), I was truly impressed overall. After earning my Associate's Degree at a (regionally accredited) junior college, Excelsior accepted all my credits as I pursued a Bachelor's Degree. They offered various ways to earn credits; I took advantage of ECEs, DANTES exams, distance classes with BYU, and LSU. I truly felt challenged during my studies as it wasn't a "walk in the park" to ...

Great experience, especially for Military

I took my first college class in 1989 from The University of Maryland (Europe), while I was stationed in Italy. I just recently completed my degree, BSL 2009. I knew that if I just kept moving forward, taking classes when I could; overseas, on ships, on-line and in the classroom, I would someday reach mole education goal. Excelsior allowed me to move all of my credits into one organization and did not try to nickel ...

Best college experience I have ever had. Completed my BS in minimum time because Excelsior accepted all credits attained at 4 other universities in Australia. Try doing this in Australia!

I finished my BA degree during my military time and after my retirement. The instructors were great and able to be flexable with my schedule. The support at the college was fantastic letting me know exactly what I needed to do for my GI Bill. The classes... This was not a push through, you have to do the work and the assignments... no gimmies here... If you had other life experiences to include military you can get credit for it; to include credit for other courses and degree programes from other acredited colleges and Jr. Colleges through out the U.S. and the world... I highly reccommend this institution for anyone... However, you will have to study!

I cmpltd my BS in Liberal Arts w/ a focus in Psych during Dec 09 & my degree was conferred Mar 10. Like many other students that attend Excelsior I attended many well known institutions prior to enrollment @ Excelsior. The studies @ Excelsior were just as demanding as classroom studies. A successful student @ Excelsior understands that Excelsior is a completion college. An individual w/a strong college lvl academic background is the right choice for Excelsior. If you are unable to write in MLA or APA formats or understand that the average 4 yr college lvl paper is 9 double spaced pages in length, then this experience will become very painful for you. The institution enjoys a linage & holds prestige in many nationally & internationally communities. If you are depending upon the name of a higher educational institution that you attended & was awarded a degree to get you a job "wake-up". Harvard, Yale, & other Ivy League graduates are working in occupations outside of their degree for salaries ranging from 27K - 40K. I am a former Ivy League attendee, name not revealed to protect the innocent. During late 08, I was forced to cmplt my degree @ Excelsior after I was told that the work I had cmpltd for my final project (6chrs & rqrd to graduate & have my degree awarded) @ the end of the spring 04 semester & submitted for departmental evaluation was rejected. My final project was rejected because the financial aid officer @ the institution was on maternity leave when I submitted my VA TA documents. The documents guaranteed payment to satisfy the cost of my tuition for that semester. Since the TA documents were not processed @ the beginning of the semester my final project was not funded for the semester in which I had submitted my final project. Therefore, my project was rejected by the deptmnt. In short, the president of the school became involved & recommended that I pay the 4K tuition for the 04 semester in which I was not enrolled, and pay an additional 4K tuition to enroll in the 06 semester & re-submit my final project. If I was Balling the 8K would have been an easy fix. Since I lacked funds, taking the required Excelsior introduction class in addition to two upper level classes for $1,600 in order to have my degree awarded was the better deal. Side note, my academic advisor at --- recommend Excelsior. Prior & since graduating, I have heard only high regards for Excelsior graduates. I travel abroad 3-4 mnths yrly in conjunction w/my employment & many Excelsior graduates are working for intl corps in which I interact. Grads are successful & networking with classmates could prove helpful to your career. Most are where you are trying to go. The school name carries weight because of the grads & the fact that you have to earn your awarded degree. If you are reading this review then you are probably an Excelsior caliber student because you are researching to determine your best course of action & weighting your various options.

Completed my BS Liberal Studies in 2008. Excelsior accepted 90% of credits from other universities that I had attended over a 20 year span. This meant I could complete my degree within one year ( it could have been done quicker, but I was working full time).

The instructors were highly experienced in their field and most had PhD or at least Master's degrees. They provided a stimulating and enjoyable learning environment. I never had as much joy in learning than at Excelsior.

The advisers were knowledgeable and ensured that all my questions were answered quickly and accurately.

Excelsior provided a smooth path towards my BS.

I have recommended Excelsior College to everyone who was looking to complete their degree online.

Completed my BSL a few weeks ago. I finished 76 credits in roughly four months using CLEPs and DSSTs. The price and flexiblity makes this one of the best opportunities in American in terms of money for merit. Great school; would recommend to anyone.
