Kaplan's Reputation...
January 18, 2012
Okay I recently graduated from Kaplan with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. Here is my take on my experience: The Good: I personally did not have any major issues with the school. There were a few times they screwed up on something but I caught it and they fixed it right away. Overall I felt the teachers were great. The coursework was challenging enough and I worked hard for my degree. I didnt experience a ...

I started my 1st term with this school on Sept 21, 2011. so far everything has been fine no problems, i honestly dont understand where all of these negative comments are coming from. I have someone from the acedemic advisors call me every friday to check up on me which is great. She tells me about scholarshps i can apply for and is really helpful. It feels good to know they are care about how ...

Rampant Grade Inflation
October 27, 2011
I worked as an instructor for KU for years. During that time, all instructors were rated solely on their student evals, which made teaching there a popularity contest. The result: LOTS of grade inflation. I would receive rosters of students in which not a SINGLE student was prepared for college-level work (Kaplan's so-called 'one-or-two risk factor' students, I guess). What was I to do - fail them all? Of course I didn't - I would ...

Almost done!

I have come to this website a time or two just to see what everyone says. I have 4 terms left until I receive my bachelor's degree in business administration. I can honestly say that this has been one of the best experiences I've had with school. I have had one issue with financial aid and that was on my part not theirs. I made one phone call and the financial aid personnel helped me ...

Great Experience getting my Master's
July 18, 2011
I just completed my MBA from Kaplan University (online) and I thought the program was great. The common theme to success in these courses is being responsible, organized and holding yourself accountable. If you do your assignments on time and put effort into them, the course is a breeze. I found that when I got myself in a bind, communication is a must and most of the time the professors and the school will work ...

Teachers are GREAT Administration is TERRIBLE
March 17, 2011
I'm almost finished with an AAS in Business Admin; In my expereince Kaplan University Online's amdinistration is terrible and inefficient. Some of the departments cannot be reached by the other departments, which means that if ever you have an issue, it's possible to think it's being resolved, but all that really happened is a notary on your account about it. The financial department has made mistakes IN THE DOZENS on my account alone! When I ...

Once they hook you it's all about the $$$$
March 4, 2011
I started the program but unfortunately I had to drop after the second "term" I had asked if I would be able to take a few terms off, but I was told I couldn't. The instructors aren't helpful at all, most of the time you can't understand them during the lectures. The material is adequat, if we actually used it. The nightmare comes with the financial portion of it. When I first talked with the ...

Well I am currently enrolled in my fourth term at Kaplan. Here is my take on it:

Pros: Instructors are very helpful and attentive. Alot of them have very impressive credentials. Depending on the class, the coursework can be very challenging and demanding. Lots of writing assignments. The online flexibility is a plus. The campus website is very organized and easy to navigate. They are regionally accredited.

Cons: Extremely expensive. The FA department SUCKS. The academic advisors only contact you when they want you to enroll in another term. Other than that, dont expect to hear from them. With some of the math related classes, you can actually find the answers for the quizzes on Google. So I question the quality of the education sometimes. However - with their new wiley plus program, that seems to take care of that.

I am 7-8 months away from graduating. I will probably keep going with Kaplan because I am tired of transferring to different schools. There are problems with every school out there, whether online or brick and mortor.

I am currently enrolled in Kaplan in MBA program and am very satisfied and enthusiastic about the course.

As one of the posts ran all of my instructors are very professional and knowledgeable. Besides their earned degrees they are accountants, managers, business owners for years. The discussion posts are based on theory on practice, business examples prevail more than theory. This helps the students link the theory read with the business practices and processes they encounter on daily basis.

Thanks to Kaplan for everything

I was recently dismissed from Kaplan U. because of my failing grade. This seems illegal since schools like NYU, etc. do not ask students to leave when they fail 3 times. I did not know Kaplan was a 3 strikes your out sort of place. Now I am stuck having to pay thousands of dollars back for student loans. None of the teachers were helpful. When you email someone from their system you get redirected back to hotmail or whatever, and you cannot use any other messenger except AIM, which causes my system to crash often.

When I complained to my SA immediately after a virus was on my machine. I lost all of my work. They request that you post to the class on Saturdays. Saturdays in my house are hectic. We have church then I have to cook dinner and care for my elderly mother. I don't have time to post on Saturday. I post on Sunday. I am penalized because of it.

What can I do? I thought Kaplan was a good school now it's just a place that calls its self a school. I was dismissed yesterday and told that I could go to another school to take the same writing class. If I passed I could come back.

Come back? Why would I want to? If I passed at another school most likely I would not return to Kaplan. Kaplan sucks it.

I started Kaplan last month. My financial aid is great and on time and my professors are great! Challenging material but overall, I'm learning and not getting screwed by FA. Some people need to grow up and just handle their business.

I am not sure what school that most of you are going to, but the Kaplan I go to is challenging {I am an undergrad}. I am pursuing a BS in Business-Finance. I have never had a sorry professor, neither did they "give" me A's. Everything I did I had to earn & they are really particular about everything. I read a comment that someone says that the accounting department is a fluke, um, the accounting classes I have taken so far are very challenging.

A lot of the reviews I read seem to want the professors to hold their hand, this is a school that is demanding and requires that you possess some kind of self-motivation and a lot of things you are going to have to figure out by yourself. I have never had a problem with asking the professor about anything, but if I could find a way to figure it out on my own, then I will. That is exactly what you will be doing when you get a real job, your boss will NOT hold your hand.

I will be graduating next year and yes, Kaplan is EXPENSIVE AS HELL! But I have been doing some research to enusre that I will have a chance of using this degree in my area {make sure the school is regionally accredited} plus if I could transfer my credits if I decided that I wanted to leave.

Now, I do have to agree with the majority and say that the financial aid department overall SUCKS! I mean, they sucks cow balls! {there are a couple of representatives that are actually VERY helpful, though} Yes, that is the worst part in my experience with this school. Honestly, even the traditional college I went to financial aid department sucked!

There will be issues everywhere you go. It's a word for that a lot of people use: Life. Get over it! You think this school sucks? I can tell you about a whole bunch of other situations that suck, like our government for example, the list is long...just live, life is not always fair.

I recently enrolled with Kaplan's Advanced Start Bachelor of Science in Business program. Initially, during the priority audit, they agreed to accept 104 quarter credits (70 semester credits)from my last school which only left me with (according to them at the time) 61 quarter credits to graduate with my bachelors degree. I was stoked that they accepted so many of my credits so I signed on. I was not happy with their tuition costs ($1380 a class) but I was looking for a quick way to get my degree from a regionally accredited university. Well about six weeks into my first class I decided to look at my degree plan and noticed that it had drastically changed. They had decided to change the acount of total program requirements to graduate from 165 quarter hours to 195 quarter hours. Then they decided they were not going to accept any of my CCAF credits. So instead of needing only 61 quarter credits to graduate from Kaplan, I now need 85 quarter credits. I was outraged and decided I would finish this class and then withdraw from the school. This school is only about turning a profit. They could care less about you. I will say I have enjoyed the class I am currently enrolled in and the teacher has been great, but the academic advisors at Kaplan are terrible. The Finance Department will not return emails or phone calls. Basically, Kaplan low-balled me just to get me to enroll. I plan to reenroll with my last school to finish my degree. Kaplan blew it!

To Anon and Mike,

I completely agree with you Anon, i had an awful experience with Kaplan. I wasted 4 years of my life at this institution. I feel as though I got my degree from Cracker-Jack University, The professors never email you back when you have questions, they give you "A"'s for assignments that you submit even if they are blank. And the financical aid department is a joke. It takes months and months to get them to award you money and credit your account. And if you have refunds coming to you they hold on to it for as long as they can and dont want to release any of your money. Then they award you too much and put you over your aggregate limits and make it impossible for you to continue your education. I graduated in Decemeber 2009 and decided to attend anther school for my masters and found out that Kaplan awarded too much, put me over my limits and now I am unable to go back to school to get my masters until I pay off the $13,000 that they over awareded me. I am so sick to my stomach and there is nothing that I can do about it. In the last 2 weeks I have spent over 40 hours on hold with their financial aid office to get this straightened out and they have yet to answer my calls. DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL UNLESS YOU WANT IT TO SCREW UP YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike, I have been with Kaplan for over two years. It has been AWFUL. I want to finish my bachelors somewhere else. Some of the professors offer no help at all. The textbooks are a bad joke. They test you on things that are never discussed in the class or text. Prepare to get your education via Google, because you will need it to get your information. I would give Kaplan an F and NOT recommend it to anyone.

Response to Deborah Young

Hi Deborah. I totally understand what you are going t hrough. I just graduated from Kaplan last week and they used waaayyyyy too much of my available financial aid. I found that CTU online is one of the only schools that I had enough financial aid to enroll into to get my bachelors.Kaplan is not allowed to hold your extra funds. I would suggest calling Colorado Tech University online. They are very helpful in getting you enrolled.

Kaplan university screwed me big time. The teachers were horrible i never received emails back when i needed help they just sent me to fellow students whom wouldn't help either. They were lazy and unprofessional. i wanted to change my major and they would not let me. now i am stuck with huge student loans that i really had no idea i was getting my self into. Financial aid was very unclear and barely spoke English! I would highly advise nobody to ever go to Kaplan. HHHEEEELLLLP!!

I wish we could find a lawyer to sue the pants off Kaplan!! My experience has left me in tears each day! I am a sophomore and ever term I was suppose to recieve my stipend. Here it is the beginning of the next term and I still havent recieved ANYTHING! I was also told that I would be recieving money from the previous term because someone screwed up. That money was going to buy my childrens christmas presents this year but that is gone and passed and my kids got just a few gifts a piece, of which they were still greatful but left m,e crushed. Each day that I had to do my assignments I hated it because I hated what Kaplan has been doing to me. I have called and left messages with David Alexander, (my finan. officers boss) and was told he is in meetings all day but they would have him look at the account and sign off on getting them sent out right away. (yeah right). I have gotten nothing but the run around and have made myself sick worrying about it. Please can anyone help us?? I am trying to transfer to another school but Kaplan is still holding my funds.

If you are looking to go to school where you can be a student, and do your part as a student to get your degree, Kaplan is the right school for you. But if you are looking to buy a degree, then you can go elsewhere. Online education is not for everyone because it requires a lot of self-discipline.
Kaplan is the only school where you get to see your funding plan before you even start. When you see the funding plan you can choose to accept it or decline it. Those who go to kaplan knowing they are students, they are the ones who always make it. Those who go to kaplan thinking they can buy a degree, they will be deceived. You do not go to school to BUY a degree, But to EARN one. Kaplan University has the same accreditation as any great university that is out there. You can take kaplan degree or credits anywhere in the nation or elsewhere if you choose to.

I am considering enrolling in Kaplan University in the next month or so. My husband attended in the last year and the actual class part of it seemed great. The military took care of the financing for him so I am a little concerned about dealing with any issues myself.

I did come across this site which may explain why so many issues have been unresolved between the staff and students. From what it sounds like...they just don't care:

www.
jobvent.com/companyBrowse.php?CompanyID=4916

Since I relocate every 6-12 months, online education is best for me but I am a little frightened about being taken advantage of.

Thanks to all of those who left reviews. I will now be very careful about documenting all conversations & emails, especially those concerning financing.
