Financial Aid Needs Help
March 13, 2012
I have had several problems with their financial aid department. I am to receive a stipend every term, but lately (since five classes away from graduating) they have been delayed...coincidentally released on the last day before they can research why it is delayed. So clearly they have been holding onto these funds to collect interest on money that is not theirs. A shady practice in my opinion and very inconsiderate. The other problem is that ...

Kaplan review
November 14, 2011
I'm an online student at Kaplan University and am pursuing an Associates in Human Services. I have not had any problem with financial aid or student support. I do not receive a stipend but that is by choice. I regularly check to see if all documents are up to date and call financial aid to make sure all federal aid/loans are in place. I make it my responsibility to make sure, on a regular basis, ...

I am having a ball in Kaplan
August 2, 2011
Hi my name is Petra and I am a veteran using Chapter 31 benefits. I will not go through all the financial mess many here speak of with a 3rd party monitoring that aspect for me. I am learning allot and the classes are demanding. The professors, except one, are all personable, intelligent and very helpful. Not one, oh except that one, gave me a hard time when I had questions. I have never had ...

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
April 2, 2011
This so-called "university" is a joke. I am on my next to last semester when I received a notification stating I owed over $8,000.00 two weeks before the end of the quarter. The threat was simple I would be blocked from my classes if I didn’t sign a promissory note putting on a hook with Kaplan for over $8000.00. After 10 hours on the phone and different information from 5 different people (FA and Student ...

Great School but financial aid is not together
March 21, 2011
I'm currently attending Kaplan, and I am in my last term for my Associate's Degree. I don't even know where to start talking about this school. I love the instructors at the school they are very knowledgeable about what they are teaching, at least the ones that I have had. The problem I have with Kaplan is that their Financial Aid Department is screwing students over with their funding. I'm now blocked out of class ...

Kaplan has been good to me
December 12, 2010
I wanted to post to say that I have not had any problems with Kaplan. I started attending in Sept 2009 in the Bachelor of Health Science program, and have never had an issue with financial aid, lost paperwork, or support. Whenever I have questions I call an academic adviser who is knowledgable and helpful. My financial aid has gone through without a hitch every semester. Most of my instructors have been well qualified, but ...

This is my 3rd year with Kaplan and I haven't had a problem with them since day 1. The instructors as well as administrators has been on point. I've read some complaints about their stipends but I've received mine and on time. If I would recommend anyone to an online school, Kaplan University would be the one.

I am currently attending Kaplan and honestly if I wasn't already started and don't want the hassle to trying to stop I would have never chose Kaplan to begin with. The FA department is a total joke. I have literally had to call over 50 times with various issues. Don't be tricked by their threats about signing the Promissory Note, especially if your loans cover all of your tuition. That's a total scam and there is no reason you need to sign it. I fought them on it numerous times and finally won when I refused to sign it and they knew that they had no reason to make me. You never get the same person twice or the same answer twice, it's a joke. The classes are ok, they either seem to be quite difficult or so easy. The "seminars" are also a total joke! Going into a "chat room" for 1 hour doesn't teach you anything it just wastes your time! I am doing my degree through Kaplan because there is no school close enough to where I live to get my degree so I don't have much of a choice. I would look around at a lot of different options before I ever chose to go to Kaplan. Good luck!

I am a first term student in the Human Services program. I am in week #7 and have had a fantastic experience so far. I switched to Kaplan from the University of Cincinnati on-line. What I like about Kaplan is that seminar! You actually get to intereact with your professor and fellow classmates in real time! The professors have been extremely supportive with e-mails, prompt grading, discussion board interaction, seminar conversations, and phone calls. NEVER had any of that at the University of Cincinnati!

I attended a brick and mortar school right out of high school and it was probably a better fit for me at that time. A brick and mortar school as a mother of 4 with a full-time job, would not only be nearly impossible, but it also wouldn't be a good fit because I like working and learning on my own time at my own pace!

On-line schools are not for everyone! If you are not accustomed to working on your own and you need someone to motivate you to learn, this is not going to work for you.

As far as problems with Financial Aid, I have spent large amount of time on the phone with FA, but other than that I have had no negative experiences. My admission advisor, Kevin Bowen, was personable and funny. He has stayed involved in my transition to the school and has been a source of support for me! He never tried to sell me on the school or pressure me to make a choice. That was not how things went for my friend with a different admissions advisor at Kaplan, Paul. His advisor was very pushy and didn't seem truly interested in him so I told him to speak to a supervisor and ask for Kevin! He is now enrolled and very excited about his Business Management program.

Oh and for those of you who are not tech savvy, don't worry! Tech support is included in the tuition (as well as books) for a $100 per term and they will take care of issues quickly and effectively! Have needed their help a few times, but they were always wonderful!

I have called Kaplan twice to research the school to see if it would be a good fit for me and my work schedule. The 1st phone call the woman was not able to answer any of my questions she took my e-mail address and phone number and told me that she would send me information get answers for me and call me back. It never happened. I called again this week explained the situation and the adivsor I spoke to said no problem lets set up an interview for tomorrow, which we did. I asked that she e-mail me her phone number and name in case my schedule changed so I would be able to contact her in case my schedule changed that way I would not be wasting her time. She never sent the e-mail and did not call me at our appointed time 1:00pm she did call me after 5:00pm left a msg saying she got hung up with a student. I find it odd that she got hung up with a student for four and half hours. There was not considation to the fact that I changed my schedule to be available for the interview. I called and spoked to another advisor about this and he actually laughed. I told him I did not find this funny. He asked what he could do to help me and I told him that he start by going to the phone recordings they say they are making and actually use them for training and gave him the dates and times I called. He offered to interview me right then, I told him it was too late I had other obligations, I also explained that I was interviewing them, that as a potential student spending 66,000 for a degree I have the right to call and ask questions before going through an interview process and wasting more of my time when they may not even meet my needs. I'm calling one more time and giving them one more chance to get it right. Don't ask why I don't know.

I have to say as a Kaplan student; so far I'm pretty pleased with the services and classes. I started out in one degree program but soon realized that I wanted to do something else and was able to change my major with no problems. I had no problems discussing this change with my counselor and she jumped right on it… The only problem I’ve had so far is with my financial aid counselor. I got a letter in the mail from the school stating I had to pay a difference in tuition which apparently was not covered by my student loans ECT... Since in the past year everything had been covered, I wasn’t sure what happened. I called my financial aid counselor right away, but he never responded to my calls, messages or emails. Since I was getting nowhere with this person, I decided I was going to go over his head. I called the financial aid office and got another counselor, I explained my situation and after pulling up my records she discovered the counselor never put in the information to have my grants released. My advice for those that are not having a pleasant experience with their financial counselor/academic advisors, professors or anyone else at the school is to be persistent and if necessary go over their heads even if you have to go to the top. Don't just sit around complaining, it's your education and your money. And as for those that don't like the way the school teaches, move on to another school, one that you think might be better suited for you and your needs but keep in mind there is no perfect school.
