Would not do it again

This university is not worth the money. I am most disappointed in my academic advisor who has been almost incapable of returning important phone calls or emails. I have had to hunt her down at every turn. The financial aid department has been confusing, difficult to reach, and generally avoided ...

Cost of Convenience

I enrolled in KU because I have a BA in Psychology and wanted to change careers. KU offered a BS in IT in Web Multimedia and Animation. It is not the most challenging coursework. I could have gone through a traditional design or IT program and received the deeper artistic ...

Kaplan University-Excellent
October 18, 2009
I find the courses challenging, the professors are knowledgeable and accessible, and my advisor is always prompt in responding to my inquiries and often calls just to check on me. I have little contact with the financial department at Kaplan because there is no need, they have been extremely helpful ...

Kaplan University
October 14, 2009
I am in my fourth term at Kaplan for a Bachelors of Science in IT. I have a pretty good average, about a 3.7 right now. Sometimes I wonder if the teachers are just giving me good grades, but I've always been rather smart. I find the material challenging sometimes, ...

XX. Master of Science in Information Technology
September 19, 2009
I'm attending the Master's degree program for IT, the program only touches the very top of the area. Classes claim to teach you how to use servers, create databases and create security blocks for servers. There is no showing anything of this nature. The courses have quizzes but they are ...

Yes, I fell for it! The commercials made you feel you were joining a university environment that would work with you to reach your objective. Well, from the begining, the admissions office personnel were pushy. Real "used car sales men" attitude. They did not listen to what you said, were impatient and rude, but kept calling you until they were sure you were enrolled. The classes and the instructors were great, except for the Effective Writing for IT professional instructor who had her opinion and views on how the English language should be used, regardless of references you may send her correcting her.

What was my last straw with this university is when I signed up, it was agreed my monthly payment would be $119.00 which I paid, then I was asked to pay over $800/month. I disputed this and the amount was reduced to $405/month. Does anyone smell a rat! Something here is not right! Be careful, be very careful when selecting your online university. Be sure to do your research, background check the university, be sure to get everything in writing, don't fax anything to the university as it seems they don't know if they are coming or going. They change their personnel like they change their shorts. This university is a disgrace and really needs to be monitored and its accreditation cancelled until a full investigation is done regarding their fees. Full disclosure is what I suggest you insist on when registering.

I was able to transfer from a nationally accredited college (ITT Technical Institute) to Kaplan University, a regionally accredited college. Because I had an associate degree they gave me 90 credits automatically. I just finished my first term there with a 4.0, and I am excited about my next term.

I would say that there online classes are just as good as on-campus classes were for me at ITT Tech. Actually, I would say they are much better than ITT Tech was for me. I feel I have already learned a lot, and I look forward to getting my BA in web development with them.

They are expensive though, I must admit. But, there aren't very many affordable online alternatives with the same capacity, unless you are going to some fly-by-night college like Penn Foster getting only a certificate.

I would definitely recommend Kaplan to anyone. Their classes are ten weeks long, which is a much more comfortable and realistic contrast to online universities such as Phoenix or American Intercontinental University. Both of the latter I had to bail myself out of because classes were only five weeks and there was no real learning. Not so with Kaplan, and it is going well for me.

I've been attending Kaplan U for two semesters now and I love it. I also attended ITT-Tech on campus and honestly, Kaplan seems to be better. Great professors and it's informative. I've learned more in two semesters than I did in two years at ITT. Don't listen to these people.

I turned my last project in this Sunday to receive my Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology. I will admit that their online account system is horrible and it is sometimes hard to tell what you owe and for what, and is rarely up to date. However, other than that, I have had a very good experience.

I can tell from many of these reviews, that many of them "did not do their research" before they signed up. For one, every academic institution in the world increases their prices every year and it is most definitely in the contract you sign that they have the right to do that so you can disregard most of the "they're rip-offs" comments. They also sent me an email about every tuition increase. I did have some financial issues and they were very consistent about contacting me to correct them, but once they were corrected (usually the VA's fault) I had no problem with them.

Second, all of the materials I received for my classes were up to date and reasonably good books and/or software. On 2 occasions I did not receive my books before the beginning of the term and as soon as I called, they were promptly in the mail and delivered to me within 2 days.

Finally, a degree from Kaplan University requires a good work ethic and a sense of responsibility. They ARE flexible, but they have rules. The real flexibility is within each class you take by coordinating with your professor. Honestly who thinks you can set your books down whenever you want and come back whenever you want without paying for it? Take a loot at how real colleges do it and you'll see that Kaplan is no different.

There are a lot of negative comments up there and you'll notice that most of them are "Anonymous" and very many of them say "could learn more with a book from Amazon". I personally think that most of them are from one irresponsible and/or angry person. I also think that "Anonymous" posts are worthless. Put your name on it. Take responsibility for your post, unless responsibility is really what you have a problem with and not Kaplan.

While doing much of my research still on what college to choose from, I have found that Kaplan has more positive feedback than most online colleges. My only question is, does the degree mean anything? I mean do businesses take someone from Kaplan University over Phoenix? Where can I find graduation / job information.

I have just registered for classes through Kaplan and to be honest, at first I was definately going to take another route! The first person I dealt with on the phone made it seem as though she was reading from a cue card and making you jump through hoops just to see if you were really interested. I don't know about you people but I'm a 44 year old single mother and I don't appreciate being treated like an elementary school student. Since then, while checking out other colleges, I receieved a phone call from Eli from Kaplan. He was very apologetic and actually helped me out so much that I have registered for classes there. So far they have been very helpful. The only thing I worry about is finding scholarships and grants to help lower the costs of tuition. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. So far I am impressed with Kaplan and with your comments about them!
