My advisor has been so awesome with helping me figure all this university business out. I want to be a nutritionist, therefor I am taking nutrition science to get my bs and be a nutritionist. I can't believe how many of you are [mad] because you didn't do your reading. It clearly states that this program is Not CADE approved and is not qualified to get you tested to be a dietician. I have the ...

Good for nothing nutrition degree

This is school is terrible. They are not helpful at all with educational or career information. They couldn't be any less informative and don't care as long as they get their money. Continued to call me for a $20 payment that I had made multiple times and each of the different offices couldn't get on the same page. They ended up refunding my money but I could have done without the threating phone calls. They ...

The BS in nutrition science is good if u don't want to be a dietician. Its is not CADE approved which means its worthless as a degree if one wants to be a dietician. The advisors didn't tell me this when getting started and all the paperwork done. I just found out its not CADE approved and won't be wasting my time finishing the paperwork to start courses there. Don't waste your time on this ...

Education Program Just Ok, University Admin...A Disaster
January 18, 2011
I read the poor reviews of Kaplan's financial aid department and student accounts department in the online review websites. I thought to myself, "these must be written by people who can't follow instructions". Boy was I wrong. Instead of financing my education, I paid in full prior to the term start date. Even though I owed nothing, I received calls and emails several times each month requesting a payment and threatening to lock me out ...

I registered 6 weeks ago- faxed ALL documents, had to get the FAFSA people on the phone because they couldn't access my FAFSA...??? EVERY week they have asked for documents they have and then wanted more and I have had enough- they are not supportive at all, the emails were sent to ALL the email addresses I had and now, when I am withdrawing, they didn't get one...whatever- I have never had so many issues ...

I was told my tuitions are covered by one of the agents in KU. After taking the course for a month, I received a bill which said that I have to pay more than $1000.00. I tried to contact with the agent or the counselor; none of them responded the phone call or the e-mail I sent out. I don't think it is a real university because the contact information I got from the agents ...

Current Senior at Kaplan. I would have to say that if you have the option to go to a "normal" college, do that instead. I happen to love the school because I am a military wife with kids and we move a lot. Its great if you need the school at your finger tips, it has its changelles, but its WORTH EVERY PENNY if thats what you NEED. If you don't need it, and you ...

Check out EMU.( Eastern Michigan University). They have a dietetics program that takes 20 months and is online...less expensive too. I found this school on the a government website. I believe it was the USDA. The USDA were recommending online schools that specialize in nutrition. I sure wish I found it before I began at Kaplan.

I would advise anyone seeking a degree in Dietetics, go to EMU, this program only takes 20 months. After finishing the program you will be able to sit for the RD exam. The program at EMU is CADE approved and is online. I just finished my BS in Nutrition Science with Kaplan and am pursuing a Masters in Dietetics with EMU.

I was told when I began at Kaplan that they were working on having the Nutrition Science program CADE approved, but it never happened. I was also told that by the time I graduated it will be approved. Sad to learn that it never was.

I response to the nutrition program I have to agree with you, why make you sign something if the program is not CADE approved. I agree were the education may be good but you do need that course to be properly approved.

I'm 40, have a great passion for nutrition and want to pursue a career in becoming a registered dietitian... it has to be fully on-line as I can't quit my full-time job. Which University should I consider where I can finish and go for the exam ? Kaplan surely doesn't look like the choice. I have no background in nutrition science what so ever. Any solid suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are plenty of jobs in nutrition that do not require a RD credential. I have cut and pasted a few to the bottom of this page. It is important to remember that the RD internship is very competitive. Only about 50% of applicants from CADE undergrad programs get in their first try. To top it all off you pretty much have to PAY for working. The internship is now 1200 hrs that is like working 30 hrs a week for a whole year UNPAID. I would rather get a job as a nutrition educator or CHE (certified health educator). Kaplan graduates with a BSNS degree can do this. It is a very realistic degree and I fully support the idea of an alternative to the RD path.

What I really want to read, are stories from people who have graduated from Kaplan with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science. Where are they at? What jobs are out there for people with a BS in Nutrition Science from Kaplan? What companies actually hire Kaplan graduates? Come on. Where is the valuable information!?!?!?!?!?

Gwen and everyone else, it's best to go through with a CADE accredited program...period. We all have to put in the 4 years, the only difference is that someone who is already in the Bachelor degree program with the accredited courses, the courses that you [Gwen and others] will need to take after you graduate from Kaplan, will be on the direct path to sitting for the RD exam. But, to each his/her own. I'm just saying to all of those looking into a career as an RD, look into schools that have CADE accredited programs. || University of Northern Colorado and many other colleges/universities DO offer people who already have a Bachelor degree, to take the CADE accredited courses if they want to eligible to sit for the RD exam, but why not go for a 4 year program that is already accredited? I don't get it. During those 12-18 months that you're taking those courses, after getting your BS in Nutrition, I would have already graduated with my BS in Dietetics, sat for the exam, passed, and moved on with my career. Already CADE accredited online degree programs are University of Northern Colorado & Kansas State University....it just makes sense to take the DIRECT route.

I am a current Kaplan Nutrition Science student and I would like to clarify something. Just because Kaplan is not CADE acreddited does not make the degree "Worthless" and it also does not make one unable to sit for the Registered Dietitian Exam. I have also done my homework as I am paying good money for this degree and I want to become a Registered Clinical Dietitan. I checked with my local Colleges who offer a Didactic Program in Medical Dietetics, which is the field I wish to pursue. And they assured me that they could evaluate my Kaplan Transcript and let me know which courses would be acceptable for the CADE accredidation and if I would need to take any further courses to prepare myself for Certification. They assured me that I could complete what is known as a Post-Baccalaureate Program in Dietetics, which is usually about 12-18 months additional schooling and then be eligible for the Internship and to sit for the Exam to become a Registered Dietitian. So, yes it means I would need additional schooling beyond the Kaplan Degree, and I am well aware of that and willing to take that on. However, to say that this Degree from Kaplan is worthless, it isnt. There are many Nutritional Careers that a person can get into with this degree, without having to become a Registered Dietitian if that is not the route one chooses to take. I think Kaplan offers a wonderful education and I am proud to be a Kaplan University Student.

I was supposed to start June 9, but went ahead and cancelled. I'm so glad I have read all of the reviews from here and other websites. I also went to eatright.org, to see if Kaplan's BS in Nutrition Science is accredited...it's not. I want to become a Registered Dietitian. A BS in Nutrition from Kaplan is completely worthless for anyone aspiring to be a Dietitian or Nutritionist. If you absolutely need to attend college online and want to pursue a career in Nutrition, I suggest East Michigan University ***DIRECT LINK***>>>> ep.emich.edu/programs/dietetics.aspx?ekmensel=c580fa7b_130_134_532_2 (sorry, just copy paste into your browser) or University of Northern Colorado ***DIRECT LINK***>>>> unco.edu/ddp (I will be most likely attend this university). Good luck to all of you furture Registered Dietitians! :)
