Description

The New School Bachelor of Arts Program is an individualized program of study in the liberal arts. It is based on free inquiry and self-responsibility for learning. Within a set of broad guidelines, and working closely with an educational advisor, each student chooses courses that make sense for his or her unique goals. There are no required courses or pre-set curricular tracks which must be followed to pursue a field of study.Since 1944, The New School has offered this degree in a program designed specifically for adult students. Today, qualified students who have completed a minimum of 60 semester credits toward the B.A. degree at an accredited college or university may apply for admission to The New School's BA program and complete their undergraduate coursework online through DIAL. New students are admitted in the fall, spring and summer terms. Each student is responsible for organizing the course offerings into a coherent academic program. To do so requires thoughtful planning and the consideration of a variety of options. B.A. students form a strong relationship with an educational advisor with whom they talk through options, gain access to the range of curricular resources available in the University through DIAL, and shape a group of courses into a coherent program suited to their individual needs and interests. Bachelor of Arts students may choose from the hundreds of courses offered by The New School in the humanities, social sciences, languages, writing, communication and film, fine arts, etc.The New School B.A. program is designed for adult students who are committed to completing their undergraduate education in the context of responsibilities and obligations outside of school. Students are encouraged to choose their own pace with the option of studying either full or part-time. The New School is fully accredited and its degree programs approved by the Regents of the University of the State of New York.
