MSN Nurse Practitioner Comments

NO assistance in arranging clinicals in your hometown?--then what's the point of going "on-line" if you MUST go to the school's nearby hospitals to actually get clinical time done???  How hard is it to do clinicals AWAY from the campus???  Thanks.

1. No assistance with finding clinical placements. Students felt left to fend for their own, not knowing where to begin looking. Once placement is found by the student, placement may not be approved by faculty. Students were not formally and initially informed of what types of clinicals to find, as required to document when applying to take the boards. 
Students need to be informed of what is required in school in order to sit for the boards. This information was not given to us until the last semenster.

2. Guidance by faculty is weak. Often, I felt like I was given the run around with questions regarding what courses to take and when I should take them. 

3. The online practicum work was beyond a heavy load. Expectations to the amount of times to post were high and unreasonable. Professor had very little understanding between the balance of scholastic, personal and professional life.

4. In some classes, the course objective is clearly stated, but there was lack of participation from the professors in an online course, leaving the students participating in a class with no feedback from the professor. At times, professor response is too late, making it difficult for studnets to move on to the following week's course assignment. Once again, lack of feedback. It felt like that professors were not interested in teaching.

5. There is lack of faculty, leaving it difficult to register for classes. Sometimes classes would be cancelled for lack of students enrolling. 

6. On campus courses were cancelled due to lack of student enrollemnt, forcing "on campus" students to enroll in an online class. Students that chose to be "on-campus" students were robbed of face to face classroom time and by no other choice had to take online courses or risk not graduating in a timely manner.

7. Prior to starting practicum, we were not informed that background checks were necessary, proof of immunization, or updated immunizatios were needed. Students found this out from other students, not from faculty  or our advisors. Students not being informed of this information could delay   starting clinicals. 

8.  THe online program is not organized. There is lack of cohesion or continuity in the program from course to course.  There is no definitive track in this program. Would not recommend this program, unless more organization is establised. DOn't waste your money. I've heard better reviews from other programs. In trading school stories with other former students from other programs, SHU did not sound very desirable. 

9. This is a generalization of the program. I can name 1, maybe 2, professors I liked.
