RIT offers three certificate options in telecommunications technology: data communications, voice communications, and telecommunications network management. The courses in the data communications certificate and the voice communications certificate are prerequisites for the courses in the telecommunications network management certificate. All three programs have been designed to provide college-level education for telecommunications professionals or those employed in related fields.The data communications certificate focuses on the physical and data link layers of the OSI model protocol suite. The voice communications certificate focuses on telephony, the wireline and cellular PSTN and related transmission and switching equipment. Courses in the telecommunications network management certificate study narrowband and broadband switching techniques, new policy directions, and many aspects of the management of telecommunications networks.Courses in all three programs may be used in developing a professional concentration in telecommunications for the BS degree in applied arts and science.Courses from other institutions cannot be substituted.
