A Very Good Program
August 9, 2010
The University of Cincinnati is one of the top US universities for the study of criminal justice, and many of its faculty have authored foundational research literature in the field. This program is structured in either a one or two-year format, tailored for the working criminal justice professional, taking two courses per quarter (one after the other, with an overlap week). The curriculum is in a set schedule, and one cycles throught it based on ...

Exceptional Program
April 4, 2009
The University of Cincinnati advertises its online CJ Master's program as being the same as its on-grounds program minus the thesis. It is. Having completed the program and looking back at my undergrad texts, I realized that my UOC professors actually wrote most of my undergrad texts. While expensive, the coursework/lectures/feedback is delivered well by some of the most noted and published names in the field. Highly recommend this program.

I am currently enrolled in this program and I must testify truthfully. In my opinion, this school gives you TOO much reading! Albeit, you can sort of "wing it" on the readings by eliminating whats not relevant based on the assignment for that week, but thats not what I signed up for! I wanted to pursue my Masters so that I could actually LEARN something. I have not retained ANYTHING from this program! Although the 5 week courses appear enticing initially, you will soon begrudge them! In any given class, each week you are reading anywhere from 4 to 6 articles/book chapters. And these chapters and articles entail at a MINIMUM 30 pages (not front and back) of material. I never thought I would see the day when a +-20 page article gave me relief! smh. I work full time, so I chose to enter the program as a part time student (thinking I would not be overwhelmed). I read review after review that raves how the UC CJ online Master's program is 3rd in the country, etc., etc. If these ratings are done on course content alone, then YES, our readings come from some of the well known names in criminology, BUT, if I don't even get the chance to read or remember HALF of what I read, what good is that? Yes the price per credit hour is cheap, but don't be fooled by it. This program actually requires you to complete about 44 hours before completion. Unfortunately, after the fact, I learned that most other CJ online programs required between 30-33 hours. BTW, I'm not one to complain and not do anything about it, I am actually TRANSFERRING to another school at the end of this semester. I have already been accepted! Peace UC!
