Description

The BSHA Program is designed to integrate a foundation of general education and applied sciences with the expertise that prepares the graduate for management positions in health care. The BSHA curriculum addresses the basic body of knowledge, understanding, and skills identified as relevant to health care services:1. Structuring and positioning health organizations to achieve optimal performance.2. Financial management of health organizations under alternative financing mechanisms.3. Leadership, interpersonal, and communications skills in managing human resources and health professionals in diverse organizational environments.4. Managing information resources and collecting, analyzing, and using business and health information in decision-making.5. Statistical, quantitative, and economic analysis in decision-making.6. Legal and ethical analysis applied to business and clinical decision-making.7. Organizational and governmental health policy formulation, implementation, and effect.8. Assessment and understanding of the health status of populations, determinants of health and illness, and managing health risks and behaviors in diverse populations.9. The development, organization, financing, performance, and change of health systems in diverse communities, drawing broadly on the social and behavioral sciences.10. Business and health outcomes measurement, process/outcome relationships, and methods for process improvement in health organizations.Terminal ObjectivesGraduates from the BSHA program have the competencies and skills necessary for mid-level management positions in the health care environment. Specifically, graduates from the BSHA program will demonstrate mastery of the following learning objectives:1. Integrate social and managerial sciences with theoretical models of health care organizations, including all models of managed care, for effective delivery of health services across the continuum of care.2. Analyze the economic, legal, and regulatory issues that influence the utilization of scarce resources.3. Demonstrate understanding of the health status of populations, including the determinants of health and illness.4. Apply appropriate models of care delivery in the management of health risks.5. Demonstrate competence in the application of skills, techniques, and technologies to enhance the development and delivery of various health care services.6. Use effective communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in professional interactions with clients, team members, and providers.7. Analyze health care research, patient outcomes, and translate conclusions into practical solutions in the decision-making and policy formulation processes.8. Formulate an effective management style by incorporating knowledge about management models, health care finance, human and material resource allocation and utilization, marketing, public relations, and quality management.

I have had an experience that was very stressing. UOP seems to thrive off of money. Yes, when the advisors call its only for their best interest. After they get you in you trapped. All I can say is to read the fine print and know that they can twist the words they say because they have done it to me.

There are 3 things a class should have, a tutorial, questions from the teacher, and answers with discussion. These online classes only have questions. The teacher just posts questions without any review. You are expected to learn by your readings. You would think that technology would be used, like video lectures, webinars, teleconferencing, the things that are used in business every day. I'm disappointed with this institution. It is profit driven and seems only to care that it enroll anyone with the means to finance their education whether they can test ot of high school or are even coming directly from high school. I find many of the instructors to be substandard. The curriculum is made too easy. The learning-team concept is ridiculous because smarter students have to spend too much time teaching less-educated. I just completed my BSHA at UOP and found the experience to be excellent. I met many students online who shared various experiences in their work, this helped me to think differently and with an open mind. The program at first seemed intimidating because I worried I would not be disciplined enough to always be on line. I found I studied harder, worked harder, and learned a lot more than in the traditional classroom setting.

I'm nearly finished with my HCA degree. I've done most of my course work in a flex-net setting so there may be some differences. I think the class sizes are small which is good as it allows you to develop cohort groups. The material is up to date and the instructors do a good job. I have done classes both online and on-ground and it is a good program with excellent materials. The technology is a little outdated with Outlook newsgroups. Hopefully, UOP will be upgrading to newer systems. Overall the experience has been really good. I have three classes left and am looking to do my MBA with UOP.
