Description

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is an accredited program designed to develop the professional knowledge and skills of working registered nurses. The curriculum is built upon a foundation of biological, physical, and social sciences, which contribute to the science of nursing. The liberal arts components enhance the development of the intellectual, social, and cultural aspects of the professional nurse. This instructional program includes behavioral objectives that concentrate on the development of the nurse's role as caregiver, teacher, and manager of care. Utilizing a self-care framework, working registered nurses are prepared as generalists who are able to apply progressional skills and knowledge to nursing, client, and health care systems. One hallmark of the BSN program is that there is no testing of prior nursing knowledge if the RN is in good standing within the state practice. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program has a 39-credit required course of study - 36 credits in the nursing major and 3 credits in the integrating course. These courses fulfill only part of the 120-minimum-credit requirement for degree completion.

Perfect for Full-Time Workers

I work full-time as an RN; I also have a disabled husband. Believe me, University of Phoenix is perfect for busy adults in the real world. There are at least two weekly discussion questions that require references. There is a minimum of four days class participation per week. Students are also required to submit either a paper or PowerPoint every week. If you don't like to write, don't go to school through UOP. I have ...

This "university" is a complete joke. It is scary that people who attend here actually believe their "degree" is the same as other BSN nurses. A friend of mine went here and cheated her entire way through! She made up projects and cheated on exams. There seems to be no process of checks and balances here. If I had a nurse that obtained her degree from here I would run the other way-quickly!!

I recently completed the BSN program. I learned so much and the clinical time afford me the opportunity to display what learned about change management and theory at work. My manager have taken notice. I feel so honored to have completed my BSN.
The issue I have with UOP is the Financial Aide advisor and Academic Councilor were not available to me. I had a crisis in my last semester. I needed to withdraw, I never received a return call from my advisor. By grace, i ended up making an A- in the class- i guess i work well under pressure. The Financial Aide advisor told me that my balance<$500.00 could be taken care of by my pell grant. LOL!!! she never sent my information to be processed. Thea last day to process was 08/30. I had no clue-WHy because she never contacted me to tell me that. The last day to settle all financial obligations was 08/27. I learned that I can not walk at this commencement, even if I payed the $498.67. now that is ashamed. I am very upset;nonetheless, i learned many things during my course of study. I just wish that the end would have been different.

The University does to a transcript review.
There is a admissions process, you have to be a RN in good standing in your state with work experience.
I love it.. It works for me and it is fully accredited.
To each is own I guess.

Good Luck

To be fair, many of my community college nursing instructors and colleagues attended UoP with no complaints that I was aware of except, perhaps, for the expense. So I didn't hesitate to sign up.

However, there were a bunch of red flags the first week of the program. Books I was told I didn't need to purchase were required which, was a little disturbing since the tuition is nearly $500 per credit. Then, at the end of the first week, I received an email stating that there could be expenses well above and beyond the tuition costs. It didn't say how much those expenses could be.

My husband attends CTU Online at half the price and the cost of all of his books are covered so ... I figured I better pull back and re-evaluate the program since I didn't want any major unanticipated expenses on top of the already expensive tuition fees.

Instead of allowing me to drop the course after just four days which is typical at traditional schools, I was informed I will be charged $375. This only confirmed my decision to withdraw from UoP.

Yes, UoP is more convenient but I just didn't feel comfortable with this school. There's no real admissions process or transcript review. They just want to get you in ASAP, get the student loans rolling so they can be paid.

While they do tell you there can be other costs, they don't really lay it out in detail like traditional schools. I've decided I'm going to attend a traditional, reputable college. Yes, it will take longer but I won't have to worry about being overcharged.
