This certification enables a person to provide guidance and leadership to school campuses or entire school districts in the instruction, assessment, and enrichment of reading at every level, K-12. The Reading Specialist program has long been in place as a credential that prepares teachers with the depth and breadth of knowledge needed to work with children, parents, teachers, administrators, and the public at large in the area of reading.Students earn the Reading Specialist Certification in Texas by completing all the required courses in the program (built into the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction degree), passing the Texas ExCET test for the Reading Specialist certificate, and completing an application for the certificate and paying the accompanying fee.
