The focus of the English for Writing in Science&Industry certificate program is on improving English language skills in documents typically written in science and industry. There are two courses in this program: Beginning and Intermediate English for Writing in Science&Industry (ESCI N160 and ESCI N170).The goal of this online program is to help students improve their ability to write definitions, explain procedures, present data, state comparisons and cause-effect relationships, and propose solutions with appropriate English vocabulary and grammar structures, and to learn to edit their own work for errors in grammar, vocabulary, and consistent format.Each course includes interactive online exercises, short assignments to send electronically to the instructor, detailed one-on-one feedback from a UW faculty member, and an individualized final writing project.
