Who Should Attend? This six-month evening credit certificate program may be started in autumn 2000 or winter 2001 on the UW campus in Seattle or through distance learning anytime. The program is designed for students who want to explore creative writing by writing and studying the two main genres of poetry and fiction. Those who wish to earn credit toward an undergraduate degree will benefit by participating.Program Benefits The Certificate Program in Creative Writing focuses on an in-depth study of the art and craft of creative writing. In both of the program's courses, students write original work and become familiar with the genres of fiction and poetry by reading some of the masters.Students improve their writing of poetry and short stories and learn how to critique their own work and that of others. The program provides a disciplined and supportive environment for beginning writers. Students learn from experienced writers and each other in a program that combines group discussion with lectures, in-class writing, readings and workshops. Students who successfully complete this program earn 10 credits toward an undergraduate degree. The creative writing instructors have been approved by the UW English Department. Courses have been developed and approved by the UW English Department. The program is guided by a diverse and renowned advisory board, including authors, editors, publishers, agents and other leaders in the local and national literary field

I would like to improve my writing skills. I do not have too much difficulty developing a plot and sometimes I do some good writing but much of the time I think I could do so much better. I can use some professional help.
