Description
This online credit professional development program uses Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement Program (MESA) modules, and real-world Mathematics through Science, to help educators bring a successful mathematics and science integration model to their students.Featuring class-ready activities, this series is for you if you are: A classroom teacher of grades 4-9; A parent or guardian who provides home-school education; An educator in an organization that provides activities for middle school-age students in an informal setting, such as a club or camp. All courses are aligned with the math and science process EALRs - problem solving and scientific inquiry, reasoning, communication, connections (within the discipline, across disciplines, and real-world), and science as a human endeavor. The assessment strategies are in alignment with both national and state standards. Performance assessment activities embedded in the curriculum are similar to items on the assessment test mandated by the state of Washington (WASL).Program Structure and Credits: This credit program features a flexible online structure that accommodates educators' needs. It consists of a series of courses that are not interdependent. Educators earn three University of Washington credits upon successful completion of each course. Courses are delivered through online distance learning. Each course contains eight lessons and a final project. A UW Certificate of Achievement in Mathematics-Science Integration is awarded upon successful completion of three courses in this series.
