This program focuses on e-commerce business and management strategies needed for success in today's Internet business environment. The program, which explores such issues as key business models, effective Web marketing strategies, and site design, development and maintenance, provides a framework for starting an Internet business or leading a successful e-commerce initiative within an existing business. Participants develop a business plan that is appropriate for an e-commerce startup or internal corporate project. (See course descriptions.)Program Benefits Network with other experienced business and technology professionals interested in learning about the business potential of the Internet. Benefit from the insight of course instructors and guest speakers with expertise in e-commerce and Web marketing. Access resources of the University of Washington libraries while enrolled in this program. Instructional materials include specialized textbook and CD-ROM materials published by Prentice Hall, and customized videos distributed by PBS, featuring experts addressing critical issues and industry trends. Completion of the program helps students prepare for the certification exam offered by the World Organization of Webmasters (WOW). A UW certificate is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program. Program Partners* E-Commerce Management is one of four certificate programs developed by the University of Washington in partnership with Prentice Hall, the Public Broadcasting System (PBS), and the World Organization of Webmasters (WOW). Each of these leading organizations contributes unique strengths in support of four UW Internet-related certificate programs: E-Commerce Management; Internet Programming; Web Administration; and Web Consultant for Small Business.Participants in these programs benefit from instructional materials that integrate textbooks, CD-ROMs, videos and other tools. The curriculum helps professionals improve job skills, develop expertise in new areas, prepare for certification exams, and meet other career development and advancement goals.* This partnership is supported, in part, by a U.S. Department of Education Learning Anywhere Anytime Partnerships (LAAP) grant through the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE).
