Description
This program is for the non-technical professional, business generalist or entrepreneur interested in designing, building and overseeing a Web site for a small company or personal business as the Web manager or project manager. Starting with a definition of business needs and project management, students create a Web site for a small business to meet the goals of the company. A project is completed encompassing the design, infrastructure and programming needed: the ISP (cost, etc.); outsourcing needs; testing site; costs, benefits, training needs; and specs and management plans for implementation. The program is offered in both evening classroom and distance learning formatsProgram Benefits Designed by an advisory board of UW faculty and technology professionals who have Internet and Web expertise. Participants network with Web professionals who deal with the unique problems in small business applications. Courses have been developed and approved by the UW Computer Science and Engineering Department and the UW School of Library and Information Science, top programs in the country. Access to instructional materials includes specialized textbook and CD-ROM materials published by Prentice Hall. Completion of the program helps students prepare for the certification exam offered by the World Organization of Webmasters. Customized videos distributed by PBS featuring experts addressing critical issues and industry trends. The UW's industry-recognized certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the program. Participants earn nine Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for completion of the certificate program. Program Partners* Web Consultant for small Business is one of four certificate programs developed by the University of Washington in partnership with Prentice Hall, the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) and the World Organization of Webmasters (WOW), expressly for distance learning delivery. Each of these leading organizations contributes unique strengths in support of four UW Internet-related certificate programs: E-Commerce Management; Internet Programming; Web Consultant for Small Business; and Web Administration.Participants in these programs benefit from instructional materials that integrate textbooks, CD-ROMs, videos, and other tools. The curriculum helps students develop job skills for the Internet business environment for certification exams, and meet other advancement goals.
