Description
NOTE: Program is Post-Masters; Education Specialist (Ed.S.)in Instructional Technology and is housed in the Department of Curriculum, Leadership, and Technology. The Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Instructional Technology emphasizes leadership development and applied research skills in instructional technology practice, and prepares students to meet present and future technological challenges within an educational organization. The Ed.S. is not a certificate program; it is a post-master's degree program. In the State of Georgia as well as in some other states, the Ed.S. is a career step, allowing upgrade of a teaching certificate from T-5 to T-6 or a service certificate (media specialists) from an S-5 to an S-6. It is not a doctoral degree, but is a separate graduate degree beyond the Master's. The program is 27 graduate credit hours, including the thesis. The program takes a minimum of six semesters, including summers. No hours can be transferred into the Ed.S. program--all 27 hours must be taken after having been admitted to the program. Program applicants must have Master's degrees from an accredited institution, at least three years of related work experience, have acceptable test scores, and complete an essay. Either a GRE or an MAT score, preferably no older than five years, is required. The process of admission is a competitive one, and part of the review process is the calculation of a numerical score based on a combination of test score (GRE or MAT) and GPA. The higher the scores, the higher that cumulative number is. In addition to the numerical score, consideration is made based upon VSU's mandate to provide service to the region, the applicant's computer skills and experience, and a writing sample in a designated form (see graduate school webpages). All of these requirements should be clear when you request an application for admission to the Ed.S. Instructional Technology program from the VSU graduate school.

I am currently working on my EdS degree and nearing the completion of the program. Having never taken an online class, I was a bit apprehensive about earning a degree through online courses. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try. Thanks to a rigorous program and knowledgeable professors, I have learned a great deal this past year and a half. Everything from creating a website, developing curriculum webs, evaluating technology, and researching theory and ...

The Ed. S. Online program prepares tomorrow’s technology leaders today. Built on solid adult pedagogy, students are given opportunities, research, design, develop and evaluate a wide variety of instructional tools. It is very challenging! You will feel the digital burn. But it is so worth the hard work.
A Good Experience

I completed my Specialist (6 year) degree here. It was a good experience. I feel like I learned a lot to help me improve my teaching ability. A large emphasis was placed on curriculum design which has helped me better understand how to adapt my curriculum to better meet the needs of my students. The professors were, in general, very supportive. Most of them worked extra hard to understand the balance of life outside the ...
