Curriculum has not been changed since the 1990's and assignments get passed around from student to student. Easy to get through and cheap.

Great content ... poor licensure
January 3, 2012
I completed my MA in Educational Leadership a few years ago. I was not able to get a principal's certificate with it and needed to take two extra courses elsewhere. Then I was fine. Now I am applying for the supervisor's certificate and having the same problem. Except now it is four more courses. So essentially, I am needed to take 18 additional credits. I got my original MA degree from Walden a few years ...

bad reviews are from whiners
July 27, 2011
If you read the negative reviews they're from students that every teacher knows well.....the whiner. Nothing is ever their fault and every teacher is bad. They want the work done for them. Walden is only for the motivated person. I am proud of my phd work and how hard I worked to do it. The money complaints are ludicrous. Obviously those whiners never put children through a brick and mortar college. Warden is cheap compared ...

up ste, mislead, lied to by walden
April 21, 2011
I started at Walden last June after I transferred from Cappella with the belief that I could graduate in a year because of degree needs for my job. They helped me to map out my course to aid me completing the course in the year which convinced me to transfer. I was told to do a course petition to double my course loads to get the desired result of 1 year completion of the program. ...

Not Accomodating At All
February 23, 2011
Walden University is NOT flexible or helpful for working adults. I was less than 1 week into my first class when my teaching position was switched from part time to full time. My superintendent told me that he would no longer allow me time off to student teach. Walden WOULD NOT accomodate any other time to student teach NOR waive my fee for the class that I had only been in for 6 days, even ...

Two Classes From Finishing
December 29, 2010
I was in the Masters of Science in Education with a Special Education No-Liscenure. I fell below my required GPA and lost my financial aid. I filed an appeal and I was also denied an extension of my financial aid for onemore semester. I was two classes from receiving my degree. I was backed against a wall and had to withdrw from the university because I can not afford to pay the classes out of ...

Walden Science Education K-8
November 3, 2010
I am writing this review so you might know some of my experience. If you are a science educator and like me feel strongly about getting a masters in science, this is probably the best bet out there. Unlike when I took teaching methods courses, the Walden course program doesn't just tell you things like 'use inquiry,' it actually has you participate in inquiry. Clearly as a science specialist you get far more depth out ...

Very Upset
July 19, 2010
I just received my Masters in Elementary Reading and Literacy in hopes of receiving my Reading Specialist certification. Little did I know, but Walden has not submitted this program to the Minnesotta Dept. of Education for licensure. So, I am not able to use this degree for anything other than a pay increase. What a waste of time and money. What's the hold up Walden? It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to ...

DO NOT ATTEND WALDEN

I have never been treated so unfairly and made to feel like an idiot as with talking to one of the math professors in the Masters in Education, Math and Literacy.

The program is misleading as many in the advising department tell you not to worry. However, when it comes right down to it, the professors are hardly professional, have the easiest job I know. Some professors never responded to emails, discussions, or application papers.

Be very aware of the online portflio you need to complete before being able to graduate. No one will review it until the end and then it is a nightmare to complete. They certainly took my money each semester without bothering to have checks and balances in the program.

The struture of the program changed from when I began in 2008 and had declined ever since. I followed application problems to a T and went above and beyond each and every single time, read the assigned readings, watched the videos and others were hiring tutors and others to write their papers for them. Furthermore, as recent as this summer inquired about my portfolio and they told me the professor of my last course would walk me through - they lied and now I am paying for it $11,000 later.

If there is anyone out there who would like to proceed with a class action law suite or go directly to the Chief Executive Officer of Laureate please let me know. My email is mia0629@bellsouth.net. A professor hung up on me when she would not admit her error only to point out what I did not do in a paper when the assignment DID not state that is what was needed.

Also, there are few colleges and university who accept their credits into higher degrees. Additionally, you feel like this is an independent study program where someone is taking your money but not offering quality service.

They want your money and they don't care. This is a SCAM!!!! I intend to do all I can to STOP what they are doing to STUDENTS.

If you have encountered any of the things I have stated here in this review again please contact me at
mia0629@bellsouth.net

Week 8 of every course suggest you work on your portfolio outcomes but NO ONE is reviewing them only until the end and that is a fundamental flaw in the program. Students should not be able to take another course until everything is satisfied for the current course. So, they make it overwhelmingly difficut. But, again they took my money graciously and now I am suffering for it.

BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE, I have documentation to prove all of the statements.

I could never get my finances in order to attend Walden. After emailing their school and informing them about this decision. My error was I was expecting an email from a person and an email was sent from Walden which did not look like normal emails that I had received from Walden. I opened it for about 2 seconds and found that this was not the one I expected. I immediately contacted them and spoke to (name withheld) and was sent to a link to get the charge off. I was sent to a link in order to take care of this. I never opened any emails for any length of time (just for 2 seconds) and never participated on line. I received just recently a letter from a collection bureau informing me that I owned a significant amount of money. I contacted Walden by email (to the person who sent me the link). He contacted me and basically told me that there was nothing he could do as if he had never told me about the link. But, fortunately I still have all of my email correspondence, don't get caught in this scam of opening any email, thank you for your time!!!

My wife has been struggling with Walden for over a month. Their response has been akin to a scam rather than an university.

Upon learning that her district as well as most other districts in Colorado do not accept the degree she was going to pursue, my wife called the admissions office to dis-enroll. The admissions office instructed her to send an email requesting dis-enrollment, which she sent immediately. Walden did not respond, two weeks later she sent another email and received no response. She then received a phone call telling her that they had not received the email. Luckily my wife had read reviews on this site, which gave her insight into their tactics. She would not get off the phone with the admissions office, and what do you know, they managed to find the emails by the end of the call. At which point they said she would have to fill out some sort of dis-enrollment template and email it back in order to dis-enroll, when asked why they had not told her that a month ago, the admissions office had no reasoning. Now that my wife has complied with their supposed dis-enrollment guidelines, and verified that she has been removed from all classes, she is getting calls from academic advisors telling her that she needs to get her courses figured out before the semester begins. My wife's next action will be to send a certified letter to the admissions office detailing her experience, as well as making it abundantly clear that she wishes to be dis-enrolled immediately, and to have proof of said dis-enrollment sent back.

That is what this has come to, a university refusing to comply with a dis-enrollment, presumably so that they can get past the deadline for dis-enrollment, thereby allowing them to demand payment. Payment for a useless degree, that my wife has clearly communicated her decision not to pursue.

They want your money, and they don't even care if you take a class. I have been scammed online before, and the process has been similar, watch out with these guys.

WaldenU is not worth it, stay away!!!!!! Any experiences you have with the bursar, registrar, computer support, advising etc or going to be frustrating. Sure, the courses might work with your schedule. However, you are going to be on the phone with some moron for weeks trying to resolve class enrollment or payment issues. You will spend as much time on the phone fixing their mistakes, as you will in class. Go somewhere else. These guys don't care about you, they want your money.

The MS in Curriculum Instruction and Assessment was very informative and most useful in my classroom. I especially enjoyed the Habits of Mind and Designing Curriculum and Assessment for students with special needs.I graduated Summa Cum laude.
Thank you for a great educational experience.

My Masters from Walden University has been nothing but trouble. The degree itself was easier to get than my Bachelors, but the ensuing headaches were not worth it. Very few schools look kindly on a Walden University Masters in Education. They believe it to be akin to a diploma mill or some sort of 5th tier school.

I enjoyed my time at Walden, and believed I learned quite a bit, but I would advise others against getting a degree from there if they plan on moving schools. It will not be a bump in anything other than pay, and you'll never make back what you invest in getting that degree.
