This program is only for dedicated students who don't mind taking charge of their own learning. There are good and bad aspects to the program, but one thing I will say is that the curriculum is advanced and, if you make it through, you will be a better teacher for it. If, however, you are not yet sure if teaching is for you or if you know you prefer to learn in a group setting or want readily available access to professors, this may not be the place for you. Access to professors is limited (not that they don't want to talk to you - they do! - you just won't be actually attending classes and meeting with them regularly), many of the tasks require further investigation by the student to complete to standard and grading of tasks can take a few days. On the other hand, if you are dedicated, don't mind working mostly alone and are tech savvy, WGU is a good choice. There are scheduled meetings with mentors who are interested in your academic progress as well as helping you maintain balance in your life during your time at WGU, the cost is low and books are included in tuition, the school is regionally and nationally accredited (hard to come by online for aspiring teachers), and the curriculum is challenging. Personally, I really like WGU and am glad to be in the program. Once I finish my BA, I plan to start my MA with them as well. I would recommend the school to friends, but caution less dedicated students or those who may not flourish in an individualized setting to think twice before signing up. Online school is not for everyone, but if you are interested in an education degree and have decided against a traditional school, WGU is the place to be!
