How Much Does Centura College Give Back In Refund Checks?

WELL, SO FAR FOR ME THIS SCHOOL HAS BEEN GOOD FOR ME. I CAN GO AT MY OWN PACE,GO ONLINE ANYTIME AND COMPLETE EACH ASSIGNED ITEM AND TEST AT MY OWN PACE. I NEED TO BE IN THIS TYPE OF SCHOOL. COMMUNITY COLLEGES DON'T WORK FOR ME. ANYWAY,NO MATTER THE NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE EXPERIENCES WE HAVE IN LIFE OR LEARNING,WE SHOULD TAKE IT AS A LESSON FOR OUR OWN INDIVIDUAL KNOWLEDGE. BUT TO WRITE NEGATIVELY ABOUT THE COLLEGE IS WRONG. PEOPLE WHO WRITE SOMETHING NEGATIVE DON'T WANT TO FACE UP TO THE LESSON(S) GOD IS PRESENTING TO YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL.

You are right! It is a great school and they are fully accredited by ACCSC. The people complaining below don't understand how much other schools cost. You can go to a community college, which does cost a lot less- but it does not accommodate your lifestyle- like having a family and a job AND you are just a number to them. Centura treated me like part of a family. I love that school!!

haha I know what you mean: The teachers dont know squat! I graduated from an individualized high school. I worked at my own pace and taught myself mostly. This makes Centura College Online a good place for me. They don't teach you, they just give you the materials and other resources you need to educate yourself. I am 27 and a business major, with my work experience I could easily complete the assignments.. Very UN-challenging.. However, everyone who attends school on-line should be recognized for their self-determination and will to even want to finish what they started. I think Centura could spend my money on hiring a better staff.. I had to coach the girl on the phone on how to take a payment, I got a "B" in general math for not showing my work! haha what is there to show? every one knows 3/4 is 75%, Come on!!, my honor roll certificate is worthless too, they ran out of ink half way through printing it.. Anyway, yeah the school may suck, but it makes you not suck so bad.. great on learning confidence, commitment and completion and ... paying loans? :)

I, to, attended Centura Colloge under the moniker TideWater Tech Online. It was a waste of loans I have to pay back. That, along with Ashford University, were the biggest academic mistakes I have ever made. I stopped going to class at Centura and they stil continued to send books and keep the loan money somehow THAT I HAVE TO PAY BACK. They still havent sent my transcripts over to the joke of a school I'm transfer from now(Ashford). They are both too expensive, find ways to keep your grants and the work is not challenging at. Please do your research before you enroll in ANY online school.

AS PREVIOUS POSTS HAVE SAID, DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL! THE TYPE OF ESTABLISHMENT THEY RUN SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. YES, ILLEGAL! THEY MAKE MILLIONS PER CAMPUS AND NONE OF THAT PROFIT GETS PUT BACK INTO THE CAMPUS. IT ALL GOES TO THE OWNER SO HE CAN PURCHASE ANOTHER AIRPLANE FOR HIS PRIVATE COLLECTION. I S*#T YOU ALL NOT. AS SOME HAVE SUGGESTED, COMMUNITY COLLEGE SHOULD BE THE CHOICE FOR ANYONE READING THIS AND CONSIDERING FURTHERING THEIR EDUCATION. SCHOOLS LIKE THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL BECAUSE THEIR PRIOROTIES ARE COMPLETELY BASS ACKWARDS. I HAVE SEEN MANY MANY STUDENTS GET TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF.

the only thing i'd like to say is that i went to tidewater tech back in SEPT96 to AUG97...i love computers soooo... i went there to be an entry level computer electronic technician, A (CET)for short.... and the whole time i was there i stayed in the top 2% percent of whole school, was on the Dean's & the presidents list and had a perfect attendance......when it came close to graduation and i started putting in resume's at various computer companies.... and went in for interviews.. I was basicaly told by every one of them that tidewater tech did not teach me enough for even an entry level postion in their company..... soooo what have i been doing since SEPTEMBER 1997 you ask? "I WAS A FRIGGIN SECURITY GUARD". and i havn't been making anough money to pay my bills and also to able to pay off the $10,000 that it cost me in student loans. but now i have the last laugh..... i'm now legaly disabled, and have submitted a discharge application with direct loans...... tidewater tech didnt teach me right so i'm not payin..... and when my discharge is approved..... direct loans will probably be going after tidewater tech for the money...although i might be wrong on that last part...... in short.... STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM TIDEWATER TECH, & CENTURA COLLEGE..... THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY, ACT LIKE THEY ARE TEACHING YOU SOMETHING, AND IN THE END PRINT OUT A WORTHLESS DIPLOMA THAT NO EMPLOYER WILL AKNOWLEDGE..... BECAUSE EXACTLY 1 YEAR LATER I RECIEVED IN THE MAIL A SECOND DIPLOMA. um can you & I say some one dosn't know what they are doing in that school???

THIS SCHOOL SUCKS! THE ORDER THE CORRECT BOOKS YOUR SUPPOSE TO HAVE FOR THE SUBJECT YOU ARE LEARNING. THEY HAVE TEACHERS THAT DON'T KNOW SQUAT ABOUT THE SUBJECT THEY ARE TEACHING AND THE CERTIFICATION THAT YOU RECEIVE AFTER TAKING THE EXAM ISN'T GOING TO DO JACK FOR YOU IN TERMS OF TRYING TO FIND A JOB! PLEASE DON'T GO TO THIS SCHOOL.

These Centura schools are really the bottom of the bunch when it comes to further ed. Kids, go to ECPI or Everest before you go to Centura. Better yet, go to community college. This is coming from a current employee - working in the front office in one of these crappy schools. They charge students alot, meaning 30-40,000 dollars!!! What you get in return.....teachers who make next to nothing, who care nothing about their job, who wouldn't even BE teacher ANYWHERE else!!!

STAY AWAY FROM CENTURA COLLEGE

My school schould be next on the DOE cleanup list, Yikes!

Maybe I am missing something...Because I am an only child and caring for a sick parent, this school was GREAT! For me, I graduated with a AAS in Paralegal Law and a B.S. in Business Management! I didnt have any problems at all with this school, in fact people checked on me so much it began to get on my nerves a little, but nonetheless I really appreciated their care and concern. I had the school throughly checked by some lawyers I know...and they gave it rave reviews...I dont get why everyone is having a hard time!!! I enjoyed my time there!! Again..maybe I am missing something...Hmmm?!?!

I am a current student in the Medical Billing and Coding program at Centura College in North Charleston, SC. I tell you the truth. The school is terrible. I would not recommend it to anyone. There is not much organization. No one can tell the students the correct books to order. The Coordinator for the Medical Billing and Coding program is Mrs. Purnell. She should not be coordinating anything! She fires teachers who go to bat for their students, and try to give extra help to them. They even have to get permission to give extra study sheets. When she teaches a class, she does not spend much time in the class, because she is too busy "coordinating." If a couple of students leave early, even if their reasons are not related, the teachers are instructed to give pop quizzes. We are not allowed to have food or even water in the class. They say are 10 minute breaks are ample amount of time for food or drink. Maybe we don't want food or drink at that time. We are even penalized for not being able to come to class, for whatever reason. Sick? Who cares! The only reason I stay is because the tuition is already paid. Other than that, I would have been gone a long time ago. I can't wait until we get the final evaluation form. It sucks!

Everyone is an idiot on here. This is a bogus site. Do you not see that it says ONLINE DEGREE REVIEWS, that means ONLINE SCHOOL not land school morons. Maybe that is why you got fired or dropped out in the first place. To the ones that graduated, good for you for acheiving your goal, but dont hate on the school now because it probably took you longer than the 18 months. A school is audited by their corporate offices, their accrediting, and by the department of education. The department of education audits all schools, so what is your excuse now?

Well I graduated from centura over a year ago with 4.0 gpa. the teachers were our friends rather then teachers. we had a teacher come in drunk and drinking vodka... it was a fun place to be because the school was ran by the students. over all its absolutely awful. I would NEVER recommend this school to anyone. I could not be paid to even step foot back in that place.

I recently started the medical billing and coding course at this school, the first week was great. The second week, a so-called teacher took over the class. It was apparent from the moment she started talking, that she was not qualified to try to teach anything in this field. We felt that she was basically wasting our time because she couldn't answer most of our questions and would get upset, she couldn't really even read basic med terminology, but yet claimed to have some experience in the medical field(she wouldn't answer as to whether she was certified in anything, she got defensive instead).Anybody can sit in front of a class and read from a teachers manual with all the answers to examples in them. But if you can't explain anything, what good are you? If you didn't pass a closed book test, she would allow a 2nd chance with an open book, so it would look like you really passed. We are hoping all the teachers that we come across in the next few months have more knowledge of the courses they teach. I hope this is not a general practice of Centura to hire unqualified teachers. I have made a promise to myself to go all the way with this regardless of what may come in the future.

I've enrolled at the centura in richmond on midlo trpnk...i am in my third week of medical billing and coding. we started with 10 students in the 3rd week down to 6. the 6 of us are very determined and want to succeed however we have been stuck with a teacher(if that's what you call her) to teach us the fundamentals. all she does is read to the class and fumble over terms, not to mention, she can't even answer our questions. we are having a test monday and she only told us the chapters that may be on it...no review..nothing...even told the class "as long as you pass that is all we want".."if you need to repeat the class you can at your own cost"...Centura doesn't care at all...all 6 of us are fed up at this point and pray when we switch classes in a few weeks our teacher will be engaging, communicative and can answer our questions...

to employee - national accrediation is not technically better than regional accreditation. All of the 4 year collges are regional - so what does that tell you? It's just jargon. Bottom line, you will pay 30k plus for a degree to end up earning a job making 8-9 dollars per hour. I could not be making this stuff up. Community college is the better choice for those unable to attend a four year college - trust that!

I think a couple of these posts came from within ESI/CENTURA/TIDEWATER TECH. Do not send your kids here!!! I know many admin folks at the corporate office who wouldn't let their kids attend. Centura college is nothing more than a system who targets underprivelaged to maximize the dollars coming in - pell grants to be specific. This is not just a problem in VA, but a problem throughout the USA. ACCSC is a joke of an accreditation group. They visit the school once every FIVE years!!! So, for a few days, the school actually acts like a school. The other days are spent worrying about how to make the owner more money. Little profit actually goes into making the school better, hiring better teachers, etc.

BEWARE OF CENTURA

Centura College Is Great! They are accrediated with ACCSC. When a new student enrolls, their high school transcripts are requested, and without one you will not be able to start. If they have credits that could transfer in, it certainly is over seen by the coordinator, registrar, director of education and the director of the school. The reviews from former employees on here are bogus. Most are just mad because they couldnt and wouldnt do their job. If Centura College is soo over priced, and lacks education, wouldnt you think they would be shut down by now? Wouldnt you think that if a school was doing SOOO bad, that they wouldnt be growing the way that they are? Just because you got fired, doesnt mean the school is bogus. Lets grow up and act like adults. Everyone has to work with someone that they dont like. Its called Life children, deal with it. If people act, dress, or say things that are not appropriate while working at Centura College, then it should be complained about to the director or someone higher so that correct actions can be made. This website is just another way to have peed off students and former employees vent. Dont be mad because you didnt study, or you didnt do your job. Students you are informed at the time of enrollment that Centura College is national accred. not regional.

Going to Centura College (both the land school and online school) is probably one of the worst decisions I have ever made. I didn't "shop around" before I chose a school.. I picked the first one I looked at, and now I'm paying for it. Literally. Way over priced, the education you get for the cost is horrible. Most of the teachers don't care about teaching, it's just a show up and get a grade thing. Go somewhere else, please!

the school is ok......but it has some flaws.
the teachers are OK and some of the students are too.
Classes are pretty easy but also challenging but them people in fincial aid are way above weresome. They will not leave you alone if you owe them money. They will keep bugging and bugging you until you pay them off. I dont think i would recommend this school to ANYBODY unless they're ready for a new challenge.

I am a former employee. Please listen closely to this warning. This group of schools is poorly managed and way overpriced. They have campuses throughout SC, VA, FL. Centura will overcharge per credit to maximize the increase in pell grant and loans (not to mention the new GI Bill) given by our current president. Often, students are STILL forced to take out an additional loan (above and beyond Title IV) to cover the scary cost of attending. While overpriced tuition is not a new phenomena in the for-profit college industry, it is quite another thing to dole out a crappy product in return (for $450 plus per credit). The wages for teachers are by far the lowest in the industry and attract "professionals" that meet accreditation standards but that have little to offer in the way of actual teaching prowess. No teaching experience is required to teach at Centura and a simple 15 minute "test" will allow you to teach in the classroom. Couple 'unmotivated teachers' that shouldn't be teaching with 'unmotivated students' that really shouldn't have been allowed in to school without an entrance exam of some sort and you have a disaster.

Simply said, don't go here and don't let your kids go here. Community college is so much cheaper and they offer a superior curriculum and much better teachers.

I am a current student at Centura Online, and I have to say, some of these previous posts seem to be coming from way out in left field. I was informed the first time I called in that the college is nationally acreddited by accsc. They actually want proof that you have a highschool diploma or ged, which alot of schools don't even care about. My friend even found out that her online highschool diploma wasn't any good after applying here. It is expensive to go here, but some of these other online programs are even more! Basically, I really enjoy my classes, and would recommend this school to anyone that could use it, so please do your research before listening to everyone on a comment board about this!

They sent me paper work outlining the cost of attending. It came to well over $30,000 for an Associate Degree. What the heck????? If I go to a community college I pay $60 a class or about $1,200 (tuition) plus another $1,500 for books and materials. That is well under $3,000!!!!!!!!!!

If you have this option I suggest you use it! A student loan for $32,000 will wind up costing you a great deal!

Here is the breakdown:

$32,000 loan amount
120 months of payments
6.5% interest (this is an average rate)
$364/month
$11,603 total interest
$43,603 total re-payment amount

The default rate is higher than ever. I blame this on the fact that students do not completely understand what type of debt they are really undertaking. I hope to educate people a bit on this topic with these posts. Think it over carefully.

I worked for Centura and no only is the cost way over priced but to get anything done takes forever. I witnessed students calling over and over trying to get assistance and all they got was a voicemail. Because of the way their crappy accreditation works if you are not working in what you studied or not able to work the career advisers have to call you over and over. IF you disappear they will do skip traces and call your family, neighbors, and old places of employment. Almost everyone who works for Centura is unhappy and is constantly seeking other employment. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH CENTURA COLLEGE ONLINE!!!

This school can be a great experience but there's a lot of issues with the school especially the Massage Therapy program. This program has great classes that can help you learn the trade but the teachers are horrible, you have one that's never on time and keep an attitude like I'm better than you and I just want to be home with my boyfriend, one that kisses ass and loves to down grade the students ability to perform and forgets that we are here to learn, so we wont have everything down pack after a couple of tries, another one that just don't want to be there so she decides to leave whenever she feels like it!!! The coordinator is the worst, she doesn't take into account her students grieves and just writes them off because her staff is basically her friends and instead of keeping it professional and speaking up on issues that her students bring to her she will just write off. In which this program is suppose to be about healing and connecting with people positive energy which you will not get!!! They will promise you tutoring that you will never receive I have seen students ask for tutoring and never received it especially when it came to the state board testing to receive your license. You will be promised a thousand and one things and never receive it. Plus this school is not nationally accredited, so you will not be able to transfer your credits to other schools. I can go on and on about the staff of the Massage Therapy Dept and their lack of knowledge when it comes to certain classes that they teach and the most of them are not license teachers in the first place!!! So please before you decide to pick this school please review your other opinions because you will be very disappointed and unhappy. There has be many students who didn't survive their first mod there because of the bad things that had happen like their financial aid being messed up and information being input wrong causing them to owe basically a house payment!! Your education is important and the money you spend is even more important, so if you want a horrible experience go to Centura College in Virginia Beach the only thing you will pick up in regret like I did!!!

This is a very good school to start off with. I graduated in April of 2008 with an Associates Of Occupational Science Degree in Medical Assistant Management. At first I had no clue where I could go with an AOS from Centura College(aka Tidewater Tech), but now I am pursuing my Bachelors in Health Care Administration at Ashford University Online. At first I thought that I would have to start all over again, but I didn't. Ashford University actually excepted 48 of my credits from Centura College, which means that all I have to do is take 24 class compared to 40 classes. Now I have 17 classes to go before I will be finished. Yes, it shocked me because Centura College (Tidewater Tech) is Nationally accredited and Ashford University is Regionally accredited. But they still took over half of my credit hours. So if you are thinking about going to Centura College, I say go for it. It's good enough to get your foot in the door. You won't be disappointed.
