Ellis University Reviews:

Ellis University: MBA in Marketing
December 17, 2008
I have had a very professional experience as an Ellis University graduate student. My professors all have real-world experience that they bring to the table. They have all been readily accessible and open to discussions. Homework is challenging, but not impossible for people working full time jobs. I have recommended Ellis University to several of my colleagues and cannot wait to put MBA on my resume!

I enrolled their MBA program on 8/16/2010 with an excitement. The class I took was Managerial Marketing and the instructor was Bryan Christiansen. At the end of the semester, 9/26/2010, I noticed that he did not even grade one of the 5 assignments; he gave me "0" as if I never submitted! I called the adviser Dennis Payne. He logged in and said I was right, I submitted it online. Then asked me to complete Grade Appeal Form. I sent it on the same day, 9/29. In the meanwhile I sent a separate e-mail to the instructor to ask what happened. He said he does not see that I submitted the assignment! It is a f'ing joke?? I sent it again immediately. Today is October 9th and I still have not heard from neither party. I even left a message for the "President" of the school too but I don't think he is going to call me because he probably knows they are already in accreditation trouble. My next step is to file a complaint with Higher Learning Commission and others.

I do not recommend Ellis University to anyone at all!

I received my MBA with a focus in project management from Ellis in May 2010. I had a great experience except with one professor. Other than that, the technology and learning experiences were great. Run ins with other students is a given when working in a group format so prepare when doing group work. Other than being expensive and a little late on verifying VA enrollment when you use your GI bill, it was a challenging and rewarding experience, I recommend it highly if you are in the Military and/or a busy working adult.

I have been at Ellis University (Chicago) for nine months now. I have learned and grown so much from my MA in Communications that I've already applied it to my job and received an upgrade at work. I only have six more courses to go. My adviser has been in contact with me every step of the way, letting me know what I need to do next to ensure that I am successful. This includes financially and in preparing for my next class. Everything is accessible online; including libraries, teachers, advisers, schedules, catalogs, even blogs and portfolios. The Ellis Grant has made this one of the most affordable degrees out there. I'd recommend Ellis to anyone.

I started at Ellis College in 2008 mostly because no one was really offering a Bachelor's in English or Writing, which is my passion.

When Ellis College became Ellis University there were a few administrative glitches, but those were handled quickly and cleanly by counseling staff. I have 24 credits left for my Bachelor's in English / Literature and I couldn't be more pleased.

The classes are challenging, some more so than others, and the faculty is professional and engaged. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Ellis.

I would like to address some of the rumors passing as news or fact regarding Ellis U. and it's accreditation. The body that accredits Ellis U. is the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools: ncahigherlearningcommission.org

The list of prestigious schools accredited by this body can be found at: ncahlc.org/component/option,com_directory/Itemid,184/

It includes: Arizona State University, Bowling Green University, Colorado State, De Vry University, Illinois State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kaplan University, Kent State, Michigan State, Northwestern University, Ohio State, Purdue University, the United States Air Force Academy, University of Iowa, University of Kansas, University of Michigan, University of Nebraska, University of Notre Dame, University of Oklahoma, University of Southern Indiana, University of Wyoming and Wayne State University.

Prestigious company indeed.

Like most things in life, your experience at a thing is mostly based on your effort, input, participation and attitude. The world is only as perfect as you are willing to make it.

"I would like to address some of the rumors passing as news or fact regarding Ellis U. and it's accreditation. The body that accredits Ellis U. is the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools: ncahigherlearningcommission.org"

You did not address anything? And they lost their regional accreditation on the 20th of APRIL 2011, will be final on March 4, 2011..

It was a great school with outstanding professors BUT like most people wrote the administration and finance staff SUCKED, read the report and they paid for it on the 20th.

NOTE TO FUTURE DL UNIVERSITIES: TAKE CARE OF YOUR STUDENTS!!!

Doug I share your point of view relative to the Ellis experience. After twenty years out of undergraduate school I conducted research on online schools and chose Ellis MBA program.

Early on I thought this will be a cake walk. Well after Marketing, the material became much more intense and required time, over and beyond 1 day as mentioned earlier.

I finished in 2005, and gained the honor of being inducted into Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society...

I continue to refer friends and associates to this program. Again, quoting Doug, the education is what matters...

Enjoy the experience!

I have finished the Ellis MBA program and found that the education that I earned was professional and well worth the cost. The students were helpful, the professors were accessible, and the website was easy to use. The pace was fast but doable, and the assignments were be able to be used immediately is real world applications. The professors were from well known institutions and most also had their own companies and would share real world events.

For my undergrad, I went to a community college and then on to a four year university. I found the education I received at Ellis to be the same caliber.

The education is what matters, not how an employee acted as some others above have said. The important thing to me is that it is a Regionally Accredited university, just like the state schools, but at Ellis I can afford to attend and it works around my schedule.

Just following up...

I have a BSEE from UIUC. I am taking advantage of the ellis grant program. If you want a hard core business degree, do your self a favor and go to a regular brick an mortar collage like Northwestern, UIC or DePaul. For me, I will always be an Electrical Engineer first with an MBA second. If I earn 2-3% more then my engineering peers without the MBA, then the degree will pay for it self in 5-6 years. That sounds pretty easy to me. I would be much more worried about paying off that $50-80k degree from brick an mortar school.

Ellis is not for everyone, but it is exactly what I am looking for.

I don't know what college Mike is talking about, but it's not the Ellis I'm attending. I've been attending Ellis for six months. I struggle to get A's. Points are deducted if you don't get assignments in on time. Papers are returned with comments and notes and points are taken away for errors. Some instructors are harder than others, just like at any college. I am learning alot. The instructors present their credentials at the beginning of class and most have over ten years working experience in the field, experience teaching, and hold Phd's.

On the financial end, I have received Sallie Mae loans through Ellis with interest deductions and grants that cut tuition in half. The counselors have helped me set up my first six courses, and send me reminders of when I need to order books for the next class.

I'm glad I'm going to Ellis, it is moving along smoothly and I'm learning alot.

If you are reading this as you perform research on Ellis University, it is important to note that some of the statements do not reflect my experience at Ellis University and I thought this feedback my be helpful for you.

I need to complete my Bachelors from over 20 years ago and found that Ellis was accredited, affordable, and was eligible to transfer most of my existing credits. The process was professional and encouraging.

After one-year, I have found the courses challenging, but not overwhelming as I need to work while pursuing this degree. I have not found the experience mentioned above where you can submit anything and get a 100. Just like regular learning, distance learning will bust your bubble if you do not bring your "A" game; turn in a half-effort and you will get the corresponding grade.

Maybe the program has evolved since the earlier experiences, but I feel the value returned from learning is exceptional and am frequently using it in my work beyond school.

Been working without a degree all these years? Me too, until the recession hit. Now instead of making excuses to myself, I am doing something about my lack of degree. You can too. Ellis University is legit.

This is my first course in Ellis University. Although there were many comments on the new Ellis University, so far, I haven't seen a problem with it yet. I actually really enjoy the course and have been learning a lot from the instructor and my peers. My instructor had been leading us to the right direction of thinking for our subject. I am impressed by the fact the course has been setup.

Couple of my friends has graduated while the school was still under the name of Ellis College of NYIT. From what I heard from them, besides they were happy with the name of calling NYIT from new york, the course has been almost run in the same way it was before. Some people might have problem with their administrative level, but as a student, as long as you are learning and get something out of the degree, I dont think we should concern of the school being ruled under NYIT or Cardean Group.

Ellis University is a very good school compared to Ashford and University of Phoenix. It is a different student caliber. School is what you make of it. Everyone's experience is going to be different. In regards to the former student being ashamed of where they received their MBA from, why didn't you go to Yale, Harvard, or Princeton? Ellis is a very good school. When choosing a school, you need to find out exactly what you are looking for.

I am an NYIT/Ellis MBA grad from 2007. I was simply looking for a program that would offer the flexibility that I needed at the time. However, I did not do enough research. In the business education, there are two other accreditations that are far more important than regional accreditation. They are AACSB and ACBSP. The more rigorous of the two is the AACSB, but ACBSP is a good accreditation as well. Please do more research than I did before you start or go any further with this program.

As for the academic instruction, it was pitiful. Most professors did not provide actual comments or instruction, they would simply cut and paste documentation provided to them.

I cannot remember the exact number, but weekly routine was generally a 500 word essay on the given topic. Really? This is supposed to be graduate work. The courses are only 6 weeks long. I can honestly say that I would start course work around Sunday evening and have it posted before the deadline. I would provide my 3 obligatory comments during the week. I graduated with a 3.94.

During one particular course, I received 100's on my first couple of 500 word essays. I noticed that they feedback was generic. I had the feeling that this was simply cut and paste to each student. For the last 4 essays, I did not even attempt to answer the questions; instead, I provided 500 words of garbage and nonsense. Each received a 100. How extremely disappointing. I have honestly been researching the possibility of attending another university to earn quality graduate work in business.

I am actually embarrassed to tell people where I "earned" my MBA from. Anyway, that is my two-cents.

I have two classes under my belt at Ellis University, of Chicago. I am so glad that I joined the MA Communications Arts program. We have very intelligent discourse among students and faculty. We have challenging assignments that aren't too challenging. The technology for this online program is fairly straightforward and easy to work with. The team assignments and discussion board bring a classroom feel. The counselor follows up with me regularly and ensures that I understand all the steps needed for registration, for acquiring books, and is always available for any questions that I may have.

I am a MA Communication Arts student and just love the program. It is a challenging environment and I have not had a professor with less than a master degree under their belt, and the majority had doctorates with years of field work. I am very satisfied with the school and took out a loan like many other students to pay for the degree.

I completed my BS in 2006 and my MBA in 2008. It was an rigorous and challenging program. I was pleased by the level of interactivity with the professors. At one point, I was struggling through a Decision Modeling class. The professor worked with me independently to get me through the trouble spot.
I stayed with NYIT because I wanted to maintain my affiliation with a brick and mortar institution. I would recommend Ellis because of the teaching style and their use of technology. Both programs were challenging but it was fun and rewarding. I got more than my money’s worth.

I am thoroughly enjoying my on-line education through Ellis. The enrollment is straight forward, the course work is awesome, and they set everything up to keep you moving. They were right on the spot on calling me, but I didn't find it harassing. I was also called by the other colleges I inquired about. I would recommend giving it a try if you are interested in an on-line degree.

ELLIS UNIVERSITY - **NOT ELLIS COLLEGE OF NYIT** (that was dissolved over a year ago) those students are now NYIT students and doing fine. Anyway EU LOST it's REGIONAL accreditation on the 20th of April 2011.

It's still Nationally Accredited.

Enough Said..

I have completed 2 courses and have enjoyed them both and learned a ton. Courses are tough but doable. You have to do the work to learn (like with any college). On-line learning materials are excellent. I feel satisfied with the program. It has allowed me to work towards my MBA while working full time. I checked out multiple other on-line programs, and I think they are all similar. I went for Ellis due to the format and the "scholarship" which makes it financially achievable for me.

I used to work there in the admissions department. This school is in bad shape. You have to ask yourself why they are "slashing prices" like they are selling cars... they are desperate to enroll anyone. They need #s to satisfy their accreditors. Why don't they have federal financial aid???? Exactly. There are much better and more stable online programs.

The review done by the review board for North Central certification of Ellis U is up on the internet: look for PublicDisclosureNotices/PDN_2903. This review was put out by the Higher Learning Commission, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and schools. Take a look; it's all there.

I'm with CS Student. Name recognition is the least of my worries. At $700 a class, I'll buy my own name recognition with a BA degree in Technical Writing. There are some flaws, but for the most part my getting in the program has been pretty smooth. They seem to have their act together from what I've experienced. This isn't rocket science, or medical school. I'm sure they have a better faculty than some of your primary care physicians had. Vets get a very nice discount (44%). The grant they are offering currently is even better (48%). Anyway, i reserve judgment until i get further into the program. I say, take advantage of it! More later...

I am currently looking at colleges, and I have definitely decided against Ellis University.

"Regis" from their telemarketing dept (aka admissions advising dept) keeps calling my house! My wife and I have told him we are not interested in his school, and we don't want to receive any more phone calls/emails/mail! He talks like a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman. He has been rude to my wife several times as well as pushy. If he calls our house again, I will complain to the BBB.

I tranferred to Ellis University after taking classes at University of Phoenix for two years. I decided on Ellis because they are one of the few schools that offers a 100% online CS degree (most offer IT, Mgmt IS, Software Development, etc. instead) and I liked the format of their course environment. "Name recognition" was not a concern for me since I already have experience in the field. So far, I've taken four CS classes and I'm totally satisfied with quality of the course content and instructors. No complaints here--very glad I switched.

I have enrolled in Ellis University after much research. They are the only ones with the masters in Communication of Arts degree that I am looking for. The Cardean Group has been more than supportive in my application process. They called me and offered the new Grant to a month after starting the application process, cutting tuition in half. I researched the problems with the split from NYIT, and found the controversial accreditation was reviewed again by the accrediting agency in June 2009 and approved worthy of it's regional accreditation.

I would say most people outside of NJ/NY have no idea what NYIT is. Seriously, I went to a top 10 Engineering school and had never heard of NYIT until I moved within 10 miles of the college. I thought it was a small community school. I think Pheonix University has more name recognition then NYIT.

So I dont care really who they are associated with. The tuition is very competitive and the MBA content is of the difficulty and depth I would expect from an online degree.

Very satisfied. Increased earning potential will far out weigh the expense.

Meep is it?

You would be wrong, and you most likely never went to engineering school let alone a top tier school.

UOP, has recognition because it's a national education factory.

Anyway MEEP your MBA "degree" is close to useless now.. check the status of Elis U today (April 2011), unaccredited, and if they close that place YOU will be a graduate from a school that no longer exists.. and was around for only (almost) THREE YEARS..

I have no desire to EDUCATE you about NYIT's ranking and reputation, just GOOGLE IT BABY!!

You must work there, great grammar. They are Ellis University today, what will their name be tomorrow or will there be a tomorrow for EU?

That "university" now that it split from NYIT has absolutely NO name recognition whatsoever. I can hear it now, you graduated from where?

Hey ED!

"Not one school has service everyone." What does this mean?

BTW, Ellis University is a FOR PROFIT BUSINESS. Where do you get your facts? Do you just make them up as you go along?

Anyway, how are things going for you now that they are not regionally accredited anymore, pretty good? :D

Of you read the reasons WHY they lost it, sh*tty student services was one of the reason they got the RA pulled.

I chose Ellis University because I thought it was a tremendous value. The MBA courses were designed in association with the University of Chicago and Stanford University, and the logos and professors from those schools are featured prominently in the courses. (I don't know why that isn't made a selling point on the website--if I were marketing the school, I would want everyone to know about that.)

The tuition cost was a little high when I started ($685/credit), but Ellis is now offering students all students a grant that reduces my cost to $375/credit, which is a huge difference and will allow me to take more courses with my employer's tuition reimbursement benefits.

My wife is an undergraduate and her tuition rate is now $230/credit. The pricing is definitely competitive.

I had attended Ellis University (formerly EC-NYIT) for about 9 months and completed 7 courses. I have had a miserably unchallenging and unoriginal experience and since they do not have financial aid, I can't even go back there just so I can finish. What a waste of my time!!!! Zero support and career services are non-existent. I was told I had to pay cash! I could have gone anywhere and was misled to come here. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Check out the HLC disclaimer too... accreditation is in jeopardy. I appreciate what JM is saying, if I could do it all over, I would have enrolled at a more well-established school and there are plenty out there.

My best wishes to Ellis U. They have gutts to be risk takers and cut the umbilical chord with NYIT, and thus challenge the quality of an online degree. In my opinion, they have good potential.

I chose to stay with NYIT because that was the reason I joined Ellis in the first place plus I need federal financial aid. After they get federal financial aid out of the way, I think Ellis will make an impact: check out their undergraduate degrees.

Yes the they made an impact alright, they just crashed and are no longer accredited.

You made the right decision staying with a well known B&M school, that decision just saved your future.

Ellis University is relatively new and I have read many of the online blogs out there in my virtual campus. SO far I have been treated with respect with "first rate" customer relations.. to speak on former posts on this website. I am also not using federal aid to pay for my graduate work so I'm not as concerned about that aspect. Ellis is a regionally accredited university and that is what matters to me. I agree completely with the positive recommendations on professors and course content.. A+

THE FACTS:

Ellis University IS the former Ellis College. The EU administrative staff is the same as Ellis College's was.

NYIT and Cardean Learning Group (Ellis College/University) split in Oct 2008. So Ellis College is no more. The EC students are NYIT students now (always were actually) And Ellis University is it's own school.

Most of Ellis College's student body elected to STAY with NYIT because of the mess Cardean Learning Group made of everything they did with the distant education program they ran for NYIT.

Additionally, The New York Institute of Technology is a far better known, long standing B&M institution than the ever changing Cardean Learning Groups schools will ever be.

The Ellis University/Ellis College of NYIT professors are great, the teaching format is great, that said expect constant administrative screw ups ESPECIALLY if you're in the service.

Finally, Ellis University although regionally accredited does NOT have the ability to offer federal financial aid, you pay CASH to go there until they get that fixed. The tuition is higher than most other more well known schools, the military rate is $250 per credit though-

As a current NYIT student and "former" Ellis College of NYIT student, I personally believe Ellis University needs to understand that if they want to be a REAL university they need to act like one and treat their students with respect and provide nothing less than first rate KNOWLEDGEABLE customer relations and services--because right now it's "just a business" to them.

BEWARE OF "CANNED REVIEWS" FROM ENROLLMENT ADVISERS AS WELL, Ellis University IS ONLY A FEW MONTHS OLD AS OF THIS WRITING 1/3/2009!!
