DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
April 25, 2012
TERRIBLE SCHOOL. I tried to take IS classes. Biggest waste of my time. I ended up withdrawing because there is no structure, no feedback & so many typos on the exams that I'm ready to scream. The thing is, I already have a BA & I've been taking classes to get my science pre-reqs. In the IS class, you never get to see why you got the grade you got, you get exams & a ...

Good School

I am a student in my final semester. Overall, this has been a positive experience, even amid the turbulent times relating to accreditation difficulties.

Mountain State University needs to be shut down, They are scam artist. They are taking people for there money and not providing what they promise.IF THERE IS A LAWYER OUT "CLASS ACT LAWSUIT"
September 15, 2011
This school sucks, don't every go to it. They will take all your money and never give you the right type of education you deserve when you pay that much money.

Organizational Leadership

The school is accredited. The intructors vary in quality. Some are very helpful and inspiring and others are just not. The blackboard system used for online classes is good and the material is applicable to the degree plan and is hard enough to let you know your in college. The support is ok. As for the campus I have no idea since I'm attending online.

Don't waste your money
May 6, 2011
I would not waste my money on this University. With the pending lawsuits and questionable accreditation, hundreds of students are left with a degree barely worth the paper it is printed on. The University is currently under review by the HLC. I am both a student, and have worked for the University.

I'm looking for a lawyer I feel that on this awesome country someone has to do something so this university doesnt take the money of the students away any more...I'm still waiting for my clinical site and a year behind in my graduation because of it! Yes you are reading just fine, I cant graduate (I need the clinical hours) because Mountain State University didnt find a clinical site yet for me and they dont ...

Great School...slackers are always haters.
November 20, 2010
Great school. I used my degree from this regionally accredited school to get a better job. I liked the school because there was no guesswork on what you needed to do to complete the class. They provide guidance at every turn and the instructors I had were great

Hello,

I am currently enrolled in the online DMS program. I finished all my prereqs and was accepted into the program.

You may transfer prereqs to another college however, the core courses are not transferrable.

So far my experience with Mountain State University online has been a positive one. The courses that they offer online is the same course work that they offer in the traditional setting. I did not want it to be easier or a short-cut to a degree.

The lectures are audio lectures and most of my instructors have been available often if not daily for questions.

After reading many reviews, I am too concerned about clinicals. The nearest clinical site to me is 2 hours away so I am hoping they can get me closer. Most hospitals are loyal to the community colleges and accept students for clinicals through them.

The DMS classes online are accredited by the CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) so you are able to take the test for your ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography). Most employers do want this.

I am not a sales person from the school and I have also taken my chances and speak from experience. Best of Luck in the school and the program that you choose.

Hi L,

My wife is enrolled at MSU and just completed all of here pre-reqs for the DMS program. She applied to the program and was rejected. She has a great GPA (3.6). They wouldnt even let her sit for the entrance exam. Did you have previous medical experience? Have you found a clinical site?

I am currently attending and have just finished one semester in the IT program online. So far this has been an excellent experience for me. Like any online college you have to do the work yourself and can only get help by asking by e-mail to your professor or on the discussion boards so it can take a little time. But the ones I had respond quickly and were friendly. It is much cheaper than most all other regionally accredited online colleges. And comparing it to Liberty University Online which I have also attended the classes are much easier to understand. I never had an issue with blackboard or any program being down.

If you choose to give your money to this school then you deserve everything you get. Where there is smoke there is fire people. If you see a list of reviews and the majority are telling you blatantly to "STAY AWAY" then you better listen to what they say. Think about what you are doing and spending. You are getting ready to drop 10s of thousands of dollars into a school that has horrible reviews and people telling you flat out that it is a bad school. You are throwing your money into a blackhole never to see it again and you will never get what you paid for.

I know numerous students who have gone to MSU and had the same things happen to them. MSU doesn't give a damn about its students. They list themselves as a nonprofit school but their dueche bag president Polk makes $1 million per year which is more than most Ivy League presidents make!! Think about that! You are just padding the pockets of their administration and getting a crap degree in the mean time. It is a diploma mill.

Don't fall for the "It's convenient for me" crap. Education is not convenient. It's a sacrifice and it takes time. Do you really want to go to a school with a horrible reputation like MSU? Especially for medically related material. Their entire College of Nursing lost it's accreditation!! Do you know what you have to do to do that?! It's insane. The level of teaching and organization is below subpar. It's not even close. Just go research what nursing students have said about this school. Go ahead and try to complain to the upper administration including president Polk. You will be ignored and you still won't get squat for your money.

Trust me folks, this place is a complete joke. If you spend your money here you are flushing it down the toilet. I took my money and transferred to a good university. It was the best decision I have ever made. This is your future career you are talking about. This is not something to gamble on. STAY AWAY!

I am currently attending an online program at MSU and I really wish I had something positive to say about this school. I have attended a few other institutions, and by comparison, the administration at MSU is completely unprofessional by any standard. Call Dean White and have a conversation with this clown before you spend a dime at this school. I am sure he will change your mind for you. Good luck in your school search, but I would have a difficult time recommending this school to anyone.

Overall, I would rate mountain state university a -B- grade saying that it's a good school. As far as price is concerned, they are very very affordable. I have completed my Bachelor of Science Degree on Org. Leadership and currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Strategic Leadership. The classes aren't too hard but very very challenging as far as the work load is concerned. The good thing's about MSU are: 1. The price 2. The flexibility 3. The challenging course work The bad about MSU are: 1. School has a low graduation rate 2. The instructor's can be tough to get ahold of at times Overall, I would recommend this school to anyone.

I am about half way through a B.A. in leadership. The courses are good and the online program is flexible enough for someone who works full time. I have already recommended the school to others I work with. Instructor has been very helpful, no major problems. Overall I am happy with the experiance.

Mountain State University offers Online Diagnostic Medical Sonography progam, but they have serious problems arranging their students for clinicals, it seems there are a few hospitals that are willing to deal with MSU as the Online DMS students start clinicals with ZERO hands on experience, whereas the local DMS schools offer hundreds of hours in school lab scanning before the student is placed in the clinical rotation

Lynn,

I am currently enrolled in the DMS program online. So far, it has been a tremendous and challenging experience. I have not started my clinical rotation yet but I feel that I will be well prepared for the experience. I have no complaints about the college whatsoever. I have found the teaching staff to be well prepared and friendly.

Has anyone had any good experiences with the online associate or bachelors Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program? I was wondering if the hospitals or doctor offices that the students did their clinicals were warm and welcoming. It seems like it may be a good program because you get to study online and do clinicals either mornings, afternoons, or nights at area hospitals near you. I was also wondering if the students in the program feel prepared for their clinicals after taking the written portion of the program online.

Awful School....Say away! Everyone who works here is clueless and it is such a waste of money! The education is awful, the teachers are awful, and whoever said the school "reviews the teacher to maintain a certain standard of quality" lied!!!! No they don't...you can even ask some of the teachers and they will tell you. Their cafeteria is smaller than a high school's, they have only one dormatory which holds only 200 students, and the school is surrounded by bad and violent neighborhoods. DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL!! Plus, the president of the school has a lifesized statue of himself in the main building (haha how self absorbed can you get)

I am not happy at all with this school. I signed up for a on line biology course but did not get the main text book for 2 months after the class started...then getting the lab kit took almost 3 week after that. I had to bitch to the dean of students just to get a response from the instructor ......and its still flaky at best. I have yet be able to get any of my tests done becuase once more no one will contact me back. Its a total cluster and too expensive for the issues. I suggest you find a different college.

Get away from Mountain State University fast! It it a horrible school, the staff are very weird and not in a good way, and the school is run so badly. The degrees unless medical and maybe business are not worth it. Advisors are crap finacial aid it crap, I could go on and on. Complete waste of money. And once you have a bachelors degree it is very hard to get any aid, so going back to school (at another school that is worth it)is almost impossible, so yeah I'm screwed and I would love to be able to inform people not to make the incredible mistake I did by goind to this school.

If anyone is honestly considering Mountain State University..atleast the Martinsburg campus..please reconsider. I recently just graduated and it was the worst experience of my life. The administration and staff are complete idiots. The school is a disaster and has a terrible reputation!

The online schooling is a completely clusterf*ck here at MSU. Tech issues EVERY semester. Professors who have ZERO clue as to what they're doing. And a VERY apathetic set of administrators.
