paralegal program

I am a current student of Kaplan an I honestly feel it was a waste of 33,000 dollars. The classes have great instructors but they are not given enough time to properly teach it, and they cannot slow down for those who do not understand. I have spent more time re-reading my textbooks from previous classes than I would have if I had gone to another college or university. I would also like to say ...

Terrible Student Support
September 21, 2011
I enrolled in Kaplan this year and attended two semesters with very little problems as far as the education and classes. The enrollment process was extremely complicated and slow even with it all being online. I felt the process is likley to deter and confuse many potential students. For some reason in the third semester I took a two week break and when I tried to get ahold of my advisor to sign up for ...

The grass is not greener!!!!

Yes, I once felt like the majority of people here. The professors are cool and admin sucks... or They just want me to read... whatever you can think of ... Due to a situation I had with FA and my lack of participation in class, I was dropped. I started at another college...which turned out to be a big mistake... I couldn't find a degree plan and into a second quarter, I still can't. I ...

In at Marquette Law, waiting on UW Madison
March 17, 2011
Absolutely great. I could not have completed a brick and mortar school with my job and family, but wanted to go on to a quality part time law school after my BS degree. From most of the reviews, you would think the degree would be useless, well I can tell you firsthand they are flat wrong or lying. Marquette accepted my within a week of submitting my application and I am still waiting to hear ...

Worth the Effort
October 4, 2010
Overall, my experience has been very good. I have, like a lot of other students at various brick and mortar as well as online campuses, had trouble with financial aid. Nothing big, but it was a little more complicated then I would have liked. The course materials really start out very simple, and I had my doubts because of it. I realized after the first couple of terms that the program starts out as more ...

Still working through it
September 29, 2010
I am currently attending Kaplan University. I have not had any issues with the classes, but I have had issues with the Financial Aid department. I received a call from my adviser right before this last term started. She informed me that I needed to turn in my "verification form" which is a random selection of students to send this in--I have been lucky enough to be selected each term. She informed me the day ...

Great Legal Studies Program
September 22, 2010
As a recent Legal Studies graduate I will firmly support this school as a logical choice for hard working, dedicated prospective students. As a cash paying student I did have a bit of a hard time with Kaplan’s student accounts department as their online statements and payment plans lacked consistency. As long as you take responsibility for your account and call when you see issues arise they will take care of the issue, but it ...

I attend Kaplan and when i tell you they are shady u better hear me. They owe me money and I was told that my check would be mailed out ion 6-15-2011. On the 14th I called and they told me that my pell had not paid and that they had to go into the system a force it to pay, and that it would not take but 3 to 50 business days and nothing. Now when I call they are hanging up on me. Well guess what I call the board of education on the and I was told they have had a lot of complaints against them. So I advise everyone to follow suit and CALL THE BOARD OF EDUCATION!!!!!!!!!

I am highly disappointed with this school. I started to like it at the beginning but they change their website and classes so much (like every 6 months) that you start to get confused about basic things such as how to enter class! Then you miss things and it all starts going down hill from there. There are so many great Professors but Clyde Craig is the worst! He failed me in the class, ruining my GPA, after HE failed to follow procedure in giving me an extension I was approved for. Then the school stood by his side after weeks of arguing and they stopped emailing me back to help me fix my grade. I wish I would have gone with University of Phoenix. I do not recommend this school for anyone serious about moving forward in a career. This school has cost me a lot of money and too much time on the phone. I rather go to an actual school at this point. I am still with Kaplan and I honestly just want to get it over with already.

Hey everyone! My name is Christina and I am currently enrolled at Kaplan. I am striving to earn my Associates degree in Paralegal Studies. I have had a wonderful experience with Kaplan. The courses and teachers are great. I wouldn't suggest going to Kaplan if you are looking for an easy or "lazy" way of earning a degree. You WILL have to work for it. It is not all open book tests, no homework, etc. You have quizzes, discussion boards, reading assignments, seminars (lectures), and homework every week, and you must earn your grade. I would highly reccomend attending Kaplan!!

On that note I did have issues with the financial aid department. It seemed as though nothing you give them is right and you're alway missing something. Don't let that scare you from attending. Just be sure to keep in touch with them and make sure all your documents are in order! I got through the issues and am now enjoying earning my education.

If you need any Federal financial aid such as student loans, do not attend this school. I was accepted to Concord Law School and the only other distant learning Law School approved in the USA for Federal Student Loans (Taft Law). I elected Concord because it was associated with Kaplan learning. What a mistake. Concord Law brags that is the Harvard of online Law Schools. This may be true on an academic level, but the school's financial aid department is no better than a State or Community College serving 30,000 plus students. The financial aid staff at this institution lie. Over the past two months, I was informed on multiple occasions by Kaplan financial aid staff that my Federal Loans were delayed because the funds were not released by the Federal Direct Loan Program. Finally, I called them on their bluff, and called Direct Loans (Kaplan financial aid advised me not to make the call). The Federal Direct Loans representative informed me that my loan was approved several months ago, but that Kaplan/Concord Law never requested the funds. Therefore, the entire time I was inquiring about the delay, Kaplan/Concord blamed the Federal program, Direct Loans when in fact it was the institutions mishandling all along. If you get accepted to both Concord Law and Taft Law (both approved by the Federal government to grant financial aid), do not be fooled. Accept the offer to Taft. If Kaplan/Concord Law cannot even process a student loan in 60-90 days then the question must be asked: how long will it take the school to release your transcripts once you graduate? Will you miss out on a job opportunity because the staff at the institution require 60-90 days to process material(s)? Don't take the risk. Based on my calls, the administration at the school does not care; if they did my concern would have been resolved, but it has not.

I absolutely love my classes and my profs. I'm in the BA program for Legal Studies. I love everything about this school, but have come very close to leaving and attending another online university only because of financial aid. My FA officer is a waste. I'd like to know what the min. requirments for that job is. He doesn't return emails or phone calls, every time I'm suppose to get a refund check it is weeks late and I spend a week on the phone with them. Not to metion they increased tuition and never notified me, but claimed to have. If you have the patience to attend this school, its worth it. I hope that I can finish here, but someone needs to do something with the financial aid department.

I found my professors Jodi Levit and Goerge V. Buonano great instructors they are tough but fair and they care about the students. My professors call me frequently to discuss my needs and to see how everything is going. Try getting this from a state university or a college you attend in person.

I have just graduated and got my Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies. If you are looking into an online education, Kaplan is a great choice. Before you read all those negative reviews, consider this: Kaplan will accept almost any student - this means there are going to have many students that will drop out. Most of the negative reviews mention the Financial Aid problems. Well yes, the process is a little cumbersome. Kaplan has about 70K students so it might get a little frustrating. But the professors are top notch, and the classes were fun, yet informative. I have read some comments like "I did not learn anything and classes felt like busy work - well if you think that you will get a degree for not much work then you should not go to this school or any other. This is not a high school, the classes get more difficult about the last 6 months before graduating. Save some energy for the last push right before the end. I had to write a 30 page legal brief as a part of my final project. Most of the negative reviews will come from the people that had dropped out because they could not meet the academic standards. Only about 38 percent of the Kaplan's students graduate. Primarily because the acceptance rate is 100 % so there will be people that should not have been accepted in the first place. Getting a online degree (especially undergraduate and up) requires a lot of discipline, perseverance, and a hard work. That is something that the school cannot provide. For those that question my stats, I got them from Online Education Database - a useful website for those who would like to compare different schools.

I work my butt off to be nearly a straight A student. once again financial aid is screwing me around. they go in and manipulate numbers in your account like there is no tomorrow. today i got a call on my cell phone at work and i told her i did not have time to talk. i get home and the message on my answering machine says please call back, this is very important. i called twice and nobody answered. i told the gal that maybe it wasn't so important after all. the paper i was holding in my hand said, payment plan past due 0.00. that was last friday. today there is a $95.00 account balance. this sucks. they have also caught the seminars down to 3 or 4 times per term. i am not paying kaplan to teach myself, that is what the instructor is for. when you ask the two profs i have now they give you a half-ass answer and do not explain anything.

I am in my 5th term at Kaplan University. I am working toward my Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies. I had no trouble with the financial aid department or my admissions advisor, both were very professional and helpful. My academic advisor calls me every term to check on my progress. She hasn't steered me wrong yet!

At first, the classes seemed very easy. I can only guess that Kaplan tries to ease you into your degree plan and online courses but after that, it is not as easy as most people assume! I have a 4.0 GPA but I have had to work for every bit of it! You have to be a true self-starter to get through the courses.

I went to the U of Cincinnati (Main Campus) and I have to say that I feel like I am learning much more at Kaplan than I ever did at UC.

One of my friends graduated from the Paralegal Studies program at Kaplan and she loved it.

I think that you get out what you put into it and that Kaplan may not be for everyone. But it is certainly working for me!

I do not attend Kaplan, and I can firmly say that I will not! Upon considering attending this school I clicked onto one of the live chat session things to ask a simple question, "how do I go about finding out if I qualify for any type of student grant?" The guy I spoke to called himself Steve Ukazim and he was really unprofessional and at times borderline offensive. He did not answer my question at first, he just kept referring to loans. He misspelled words, and his grammar was horrible. He even abbreviated 'please' as "plz!" I'm sorry, but I do not feel comfortable discussing my future with people who are not professional! He also implied ignorance on my part by telling me he didn't see how I could expect to attend college without loans and when I said I didn't know whether or not I could afford to pay off the loans he said "well Kaplan isn't full of rich kids and college isn't for everybody... I know of 60,000 students here who do it..." Are you kidding me? When I told him that he was coming off offensively and 'implied ignorance' he said he "never impaled anything" and didn't want to "waist" my time... IMPALED? WAIST? This guy seriously didn't know what he was talking about, first of all he never stabbed me with anything, so no he didn't i-m-p-a-l-e me and he meant waste not W-A-I-S-T!!! The way I see it, if I cannot trust this university to put the time and effort into educating their employees on how to serve potential students I CANNOT trust them to take my education and future seriously either.

I have attended Kaplan university for four years. The first two years to earn my Associates, the second to earn my Bachelor's. I have found that Kaplan was no different than any other brick and mortar university that I attended. In fact, I think there is a lot more homework than at the other schools I've attended. Not only is there a lot more homework, but it seems to be more difficult.

I think anyone with patience, self discipline, and the ability to learn without having a boat load of hand holding will do well.

Only draw back to Kaplan is that like any school or corporation, they have their bad staff and their good staff. Unfortunately, people always remember the bad staff. But does anyone ever remember those that have been outstanding? In conclusion, I've never had a bad experience at Kaplan, and when I did have a minor issue, someone always provided assistance.

This is a great school, I have never had any of these problems, I have had help everytime that I had a question on financial aid and academics.

I was attending a private university campus prior to Kaplan, paying $26,000.00 a year and hating everyday. Prof's acted like they didn't care, lectures were long and there was little to no interaction with thprof's or the other students.
Kaplan is great, plenty of interaction from Prof's and students, challenging courses, and I enjoy that I can sit down with a cup of coffee and complete my assignments without fighting the crowd on campus..
I truly believe that people who are having difficulty are probably behind with loan payments, or never understood the process.
They would have had the same problems at a community college. Just my opinion.
  I graduate in 2010!!!!
